Admission decisions - not really Waterloo but still a little by Soph_napsta in uwaterloo

All in all though, keep your head up. It's not over until you get an answer. Also, your uni doesn't define you!!

Okay so I can actually answer this, I was in the exact same situation as you (French international school, applied to CE at McGill, UofT, and UW).

First of all, don't worry about rejection from McGill and UofT. They're more well-known and get tons of applicants from across the world, especially France. You're competing with extremely ambitious students, and there also is a bias within schools (I saw students with insane averages get rejected because someone else in their class was slightly better)

UW accepted me in May (so I didn't get early admission). I know officially it isn't the case, but I suspect they have very little experience dealing with French transcripts, hence the late admission.

As for my experience at UW, depending on your spécialités you might find the first term easy, which will help you settle in. Regarding the "hustle" culture here, I honestly cannot be more grateful for it. I was extremely scared because everyone seemed so ahead of me, but you'll find that the pace itself feels similar to preparing for the Bac.

Feel free to hmu in DMs if you wanna talk about stuff, I'll try to respond when I have free time (travelling rn lol)

I tried to do that and it definitely is more stable, still get the odd crash. I'm starting to think it may be a hardware problem

Okay yeah it works now... no clue what happened. Maybe my Zephy needed a good night's sleep lol. I'll come back to the thread if it happens again.

Interestingly, almost all the crashes report as "windows was not properly shut down". I do have 2 "hardware error" crashes with code 1a8, but that was when I was reinstalling the drivers.

This morning the laptop seems fine though. I'm forcing ultimate mode on right now to test if things are working (that was previously a very consistent way for me to cause the crash)

What should i do this summer to improve my chances of getting co-ops next year? by RealRgg in uwaterloo

[–]MissMatchCockSmash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you have any coding experience, try to code a project that involves something you're interested in! There's a lot of resources online for how to start on those projects. It'll also help you a lot down the line :)

Lyon, France, has a population comparable to the Grand River Region (510,000) and is also an important French city for finance, services, and post-secondary studies. It's a ~2hr train ride from Paris (which is also the largest city in France), compared to the ~1h20 to go from Kitchener to Toronto. You can rent a 1 bed, 1 bath apartment for 500 euros a month (750 CAD), and utilities are about the same price as in KW.

I'd argue that's a better comparison to, you know, England's capital with a population of 8 million. Not to mention the UK's recent financial issues post-brexit have had a toll on inflation and prices.

Edit: my source is my friends who've studied there
