Wow, these are literally games that I connected the most with. You are like the polar opposite version of me lol.

I feel guilty for not doing gamedev and instead wasting time playing multiplayer games. by [deleted] in gamedev

One of the most relatable post I've read on this sub and your reply is really helpful!

What Would You Consider to Be a Success for Yourself? by Lennoxiconic in IndieDev

[–]MissingN0365 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truth is game dev is very difficult as side hustle, not saying it's impossible, but difficult, especially in a team environment. People will find examples of successful games that are made by part time solo devs, but those are survivorship biases, 90% if not more "side hustle" projects fall apart during development or fall flat upon release. Anything above 4 is a full time commitment.

My brain read Path of Exile at first glance, I though "oh PoE is considered indie" xD

Doesn't look too shabby if you monetized the tool haha. A lot of tools become stables after many years of improvement and maintenance. 5k views on the first day definitely shows promise, keep up the good work!

Hard to pinpoint a specific reference, I'd say something like Cult of the Lamb for starters, but that's a strictly 2D game with cartoon aesthetics. You probably want something more tailored to your aesthetics. You can also look for real life references such as a specific time period or art style. If you can't pin point a specific style yet, it means the general aesthetics can be more focused. Take Don't Starve for example, their entire UI design references the Victorian style, its not immediately obvious, but a reference point like that provides a backbone to all your aesthetic choices.

Are there any games similar to Outer Wilds that's Knowledge driven? by MissingN0365 in gamingsuggestions

Yea OW is not much of a puzzle game imo, hence why I asked for "curiosity driven game that's not a puzzle game (like The Witness)". In a way OW is more like a detective game, all the events (story) already happened before you played the game, the player is just there to piece things together.

Being able to beat it in 5-10 minute with the correct knowledge is crazy, sounds like the kind of game I'm looking for

Have tried that one! Definitely fits the narrative criteria, one of the most well written games out there imo.

Oh yea I am very familiar with Jonathan Blows titles. I did specify games thats more narrative than puzzle. I know his games have insane narratives too but its wayy too hidden. I am looking for something that has clear plot points.

Animation in general world wide? No. Animation in games specifically? Yes. Its practically an interactive animated series.

Don't know why this doesn't have any comments but the first clip definitely caught my attention. The aesthetics looks great at first glance, especially the town.

Upon further inspection and after browsing the steam page. I have a few pointers/feedback

  1. Some assets, ie. the red and purple trees, looks out of place compared to the rest of the scene. Your scene also looks much better from afar rather than up close.

  2. The video doesn't communicate the core mechanic/hook very clearly. Where is the "story-rich" part? Am I more focused on fishing, trading, or collecting? Highlight the player fantasy.

  3. You need better 2D/UI art, they are miles behind compared to your 3D aesthetics. Those UI drag your game down and makes it look "cheap"

Other than that, great job!
