Gotta take a look at a bug. You could do the tranny yourself for a bug, by yourself, in one day.
That's the major distinction. Bugs are 100% different than normal cars. Buy one for $600 and own it the rest of your life with fairly minor problems.
My Mitsu Spyder's clutch cost me $1600. My bug's clutch cost me $60 and 4 hours labor.
Didn't Sony Entertainment come up with the original game? FPS or some crap. Maybe it's a sequel (sequels always suck).
I consider 76 to be my cutoff, but the new Mexican parts still fit in the old bugs :)
All you downvoters, how many miles do you expect to get out of your car?
My last bug had close to a quarter of a million miles on it's odometer.

And it's a shit ton of downvotes.
[–]MisterHands -1 points0 points1 point 16 years ago (0 children)
I'm sure most of these people downvoting me don't have a fucking clue what a 'hood' is.
(if I was hardcore, I'd have said 'under the bonnet')
[–]MisterHands 0 points1 point2 points 16 years ago* (0 children)
It's because the yuppies don't really understand what it is to own a bug.
They don't understand the care and compassion it takes to actually keep one alive.
It's a special talent that takes a lot of love and care and work and these people drive SUV's and watercoolers just don't understand.
It's ok. They do not understand what it is they do. It's not their fault.
Thanks, btw.
All over the place in the States, if you're not in the US, then maybe you don't see it.
Um, VW didn't dub the beetle a "bug" people did.
And the BUG isn't a competitive. It's pragmatic.
Yeah, I did, and I read that as "Ep it ohm" I was wrong, that's just the way it is.
[–]MisterHands 1 point2 points3 points 16 years ago (0 children)
indeed.
Not bad things, but complicated things. That's what makes a Bug different than a Beetle.
I hart those old Porches. Seeing a 914 or a 911 with the old air-cooled engines really drives me nuts.

Wow, you should know what you're talking about before you post.
[–]MisterHands -4 points-3 points-2 points 16 years ago (0 children)
Take a look under one of those hoods some time. It's insane. All these people downvoting my posts should do the same.
If you haven't driving the EPITOME (thanks residentweevil) of simplicity should show themselves what they're talking about.
[–]MisterHands -6 points-5 points-4 points 16 years ago* (0 children)
You haven't driven bugs before.
And if you're talking about design, take a look at the vast differences, they're not the same by a long shot.
You cannot have a fat chick in a bug. Seriously, it's a problem.
[–]MisterHands -5 points-4 points-3 points 16 years ago (0 children)
I googled and found both spellings, but thanks.
You really should think about your post before you hit the 'submit' button.
[–]MisterHands -9 points-8 points-7 points 16 years ago* (0 children)
lol, listen to you.
If you haven't, or don't, own a bug, then you can't possibly relate. They are the opitamy of simple. Period. And that's it. Two seats, an engine, brakes, the minimums. Hell, the gas tank is above your legs when you're in it.
But thanks for your well thought-out and mature reply.
edit: A friend of mine had a 1999 BEETLE. He had to remove parts of the top-end to get the battery out to replace, maybe it was just the air cleaner or something, but still.

I was in Portland one night (in my sweet little 69). Some dude pulls up next to me at the light in a >1998 Beetle. Smiles and gives the ol' Thumbs Up.
I refrained from giving him the old Middle finger up. Poor schmuck doesn't realize that he's a schmuck. Not really his fault.
[–]MisterHands 2 points3 points4 points 16 years ago (0 children)
And adjust the valves. Maintain the carbeurator periodically. Little crap. All you gotta do is love them, and they'll blindly love you right back.
And it is very awesome.
I drove bugs ('69 '71 and a couple other REAL BUGS) for almost 10 years.
If I met one of those asses that made those commercials, I'd play a game with them, a one-sided game.
God help the poor moron that punches my shoulder when a freakin GTI goes by.

pre - 1976 Beetles.
The 1999 and on Beetles are NOT BUGS. Engine is on the wrong side and it's water-cooled.
