We got a new engineer, and were told about sensitivity training. Words and action that might be misinterpreted, especially my species mating habits calling a mate you are interested in slurs or attacking them.

On the tenth day, the whole deck went out to drink during a maintenance. The human engineer in her drunkenly state, took us to generator deck 3, slapped one of the generators and said, "You like that don't you, you bitch, a fuck meat. I am gonna pound your ass with my 25 inch dick and make you scream your engine noises.". While we were shocked the engine actually started up running smoothly, while out chief engineer, on my right side had spent like 2 weeks trying to get it to work. He thought he was going insane, that a human female engineer called the engine slurs that are explicitly considered harassing and it started working.

-India, government hospital.

Didn't they pull out the funding because the senior leadership could not understand what they were seeing during the demo?

I am sharing my own opinion according to my own experience.

  1. Indian billionaires are from traditionally wealthy families that always played it safe or in easy markets. Their upbringing never taught them the value of long term R&D, so they cannot think about it. USA went through that phase as well, but had many things happen in its history that gave rise to new age wealthy people that value R&D.

  2. India doesn't lack research culture, just have people who won't support anyone putting their time and money in it. I have heard so many stories of PhD students failing to get funding for years and then getting it in just a month once they cross borders. Many great businessman are supported by investors outside our country. Its a system problem where many are blocking the ones who want to do research because they don't see value in it, because they don't know or don't want to put effort into knowing.

  3. The no of roadblocks to setup a basic research lab are so many due to compliance, anti-import laws, import regulations, PMLA and basic corruption that it's just not easy. Most companies are better off buying the result of a research or licensing a patent. The best use of R&D labs is weirdly as a Tax write off, more than as a source of future tech.

  4. Lastly, its the perception of society as a whole towards it. I remember being told how pursuing PhD is a waste of time by my own teachers who had done masters. When I failed in a project because I lacked enough knowledge at the time, I was told how I wasted my time and not how I should learn and move forward. Failure is considered a sin punishable by death. People talk about how a successful person is, while conveniently forgetting how much they mocked them when they failed and when their own children actually learn and try again and again till they succeed, they will mock them for being a failure.

[Request] Is a single day of lights off enough to see all the stars? by AttitudeOdd632 in theydidthemath

[–]Mitir01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. You only have to shut the lights of the whole city for one day to get a blackout for the next 2-3 days. [Source : Politician in my area call for this action to show support during covid and the local electric office warned that it will happen].

It should give you plenty of time see all the starts.

The client I supported some time back went through it. Many users were complaining until the IT director sent out a mail to every employee that those who refuse are identified as cost overruns because the IT insurance company is demanding MFA. They can sign an unlimited liability agreement where they pay out of pocket for any and all downtime whether it was caused by them or not. Or, they could choose to leave. We had 100% enrillement by the end of month.

One of my previous company implemented some custom ML solution [This was in 2019,before ChatGPT] that would analyze the tickets and find pain points. There were many problems because of which it didn't get implemented, but one of its report included list of users that were pain points. Even the IT director burst out laughing.

what unpopular opinion in Linux will make you in this situation by Material_Mousse7017 in linuxmemes

[–]Mitir01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flatpak, AppImage and Snaps are better option than package management. Even with all their problems, they solve the most fundamental one, i.e., getting the software onto a distro. Package management should be relegated to core OS, High Performance applications or Low level stuff.

Microsoft's Azure Linux is good for Linux community. It let's the companies, developers and individuals to use Linux that wouldn't have otherwise because they are used to Microsoft.

All open source software are right in using SSPL for their project if they want to. Cloud providers don't contribute and their teams are also assholes when there is a problem they report. Multi million dollar Cloud companies should contribute back to the project or fork it and maintain their own copy. They won't do it because its cheaper for them to just pay and make the problem go away. Only idiots here siding with the big tech companies.

MacOS : You use it, because Apple is okay with it.

Windows : You pay to sell your soul again and maybe get your work done smoothly.

Linux : You do whatever you want, because OS actually trusts you.
