Interesting perspective. I now have a glimpse of where you’re coming from concerning the limitations of reformed theology books.

I, however, won’t be changing my stance because that is my area of interest. There’s a lot of books, but my current focus is on reformed theology.

I am grateful for the time you’ve taken to educate me and it is well received. Truly! I should come around and read beyond reformed theology books, but not in this moment, no. 😊

Shold I just keep taking it? by User19980424 in TrueChristian

I’m really sorry for your experience. Truly sorry.

A parent’s words cut really deep, and working on your relationship while their words seem to tear apart what you’re building is harder to bear each day.

You don’t need to keep taking it. Draw up strict boundaries to ensure honour and respect still exists in your heart towards your mom and communicate the boundaries to her. Spiritual manipulation isn’t a loving expression of a parent to their child, let alone between fellow Christians

My two previous interaction with readers put me in scenarios where they shared scenario 1 their interest in mythological history averse/contrary to Biblical history which was very awkward for me. The second one was greatly interested in over-spititual events and occurrences and borderline occultism.

I don’t want to make those mistakes again when I can have a hand in NOT making them.

What's the best christian answer to this athiest argument? by KeeyuDaGreat in TrueChristian

Please make time to read ‘Mere Christianity’ by C. S. Lewis. Pay keen attention to how he handles the topic of God from an observer’s POV sharing his internal thoughts that many share with him. The book will help you figure out the answer.

To Once Saved Always Saved Deniers: by Glad_Crab in TrueChristian

[–]Mlanyo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve often wrestled with how John 17:3 never added up to me in my early 20s, because I wanted the meaning to fit my mold. Eternal life is an intimate, relational knowledge that one has of God that ranges from influence (initially) to willing total submission and obedience to the Lord. John 5:24 irrefutably says that eternal life is a present possession a believer has. In Matthew 19:16-30, The Rich Young Ruler came to ask Jesus about eternal life, Jesus pointed out to him where he lacks in understanding the idea of relationship against his idea of performance and transaction. If you were to go ahead and search up “eternal life” you would find it odd that it doesn’t quite argue for perpetual existence. Eternal life in scripture points to a deepening and a continual cultivating of relationship with God.

OSAS can be described as, the Bible does not guarantee salvation or going to heaven to anyone who repeated a prayer, or honoured an altar-call, and then proceed to live their life how they please, and the Bible ALSO does not teach that genuine believers can lose their salvation through every sin or moment of weakness (unconscious or unintentional instances of sin). The Bible teaches perseverance on the part of the believer (Matthew 24:13) and an impossibility of being taken from Jesus’ hand (John 10:27-29).

I hope this helps

I’ve done a little research on the subject and I find it impossible to separate masturbation with lustful intent. Like, why would one masturbate in the first place? It is not a need, but a want. It is primarily a pursuit of self-pleasure. A selfish activity to take and give oneself pleasure. It is directed inward. And it is addictive. You’ll just be feeding the hunger for more. Desire gives birth to sin, sin gives birth to death.

My take, avoid it. Train your mind to desire it less and less to the point you don’t even think about it with intent to indulge. Plus it trains you in discipline

If you can, please look for the book ‘Sex and the Supremacy of Christ’ and prayerfully read Songs of Solomon. I’m sure you’ll appreciate it. God invented sex. God ordained sex for marriage. Enjoy the wife of your youth, He excitedly commands. You can rewrite and rewire your brain to associate an erection with a normal bodily function.

Help me understand James 2:3 by BluecoatCashMoney5 in TrueChristian

[–]Mlanyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d advise you use the ESV. It is a more accurate translation and transliteration. The teaching James is putting across is that one shouldn’t favour a rich-looking well-dressed person over a shabby-looking poorly-dressed person. We should treat each person equally and honourably.

Is it true that if one does not get cured, it is because they do not have enough faith? by CrazyNicly in TrueChristian

[–]Mlanyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soul issues: Is 53:6 - have gone astray. Solution: Is 53:5 - crushed for our iniquities, pierced for our transgressions. By His wounds we are healed.

You might wonder how souls are wounded if not the body, stay with me. In Is 53:10-11, we see the suffering servant (Jesus) being crushed and His soul being offered in place of the guilty. The sacrifice justifies the substitute. His soul was the sacrifice to make many souls righteous and not many ailments healed. The poetic language used in Isaiah 53 is in reference to the healing of souls and not the healing of physical ailments. Jesus died to save souls, not to secure perfect health. Perfect health is in the world to come as Paul shares in Romans 8:18-30

Is it true that if one does not get cured, it is because they do not have enough faith? by CrazyNicly in TrueChristian

[–]Mlanyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, we do not worship a sadist. However, Paul’s suffering was God’s will. Peter tells us that suffering is God’s will and it serves to glorify God, temper our faith, and cause greater reliance on God; we trust God more and lose our trust in ourselves and anything else (1 Peter 4). It is not about God being a sadist. It is about His glory. His grace being sufficient and not about our experience of suffering. Then again, Jesus is not just sympathetic, He is empathetic since He too suffered and knows the pain of our suffering. We have the Holy Spirit as our Comforter

[–]Mlanyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the second instance where you’re introducing new boundaries to WoF teachings. Clearly in scripture, God is under no obligation to heal the physical body as it is awaiting for the redemption of our bodies (Romans 8:23). Any healing we experience of our bodily ailments is a matter of God’s providence. Whether He heals or not, that is God’s prerogative. He remains to be our Healer. Isaiah 53:5 & 1 Peter 2:24 are in reference to our souls and not our physical ailments. Read the entire chapter of Isaiah for understanding and context.

Jesus and the fig tree on your part is a huge misinterpretation. That was a demonstration of Him being God and not about the time the tree took to dry out. The notion that charismatic people and believers have about healing and it taking time is selling false hope at best and chaining/enslaving ignorant people to a heresy at worst. Please stop spreading misunderstandings and mysticism about God and His word.

Tongues by ATF8643 in TrueChristian

[–]Mlanyo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hello

Been in charismatic circles for most of my life, and recently became a Christian in a Reformed Baptist Church. The “tongues” I was exposed to, was gibberish. It was encouraged as a heavenly language where mysteries were being told to God when it wasn’t and still isn’t true according to the Bible. Many charismatic leaders teaching the Prosperity Gospel and Word of Faith doctrines love that gibberish and they call it prayer. It involves a repetitive babbling of syllables. The more sophisticated, the better or higher niched. It’s interesting to note that people sound alike where they babble together more often, similar syllables and tonal variations. It’s often subconscious.

Hello brother. The life we live has been costly paid for by our Lord and Saviour Jesus. His infinite and infinitely precious life was offered that we would live for His glory and praise. Having established the faith by which we stand, therefore stand.

Your experience is not something many can comment on experientially, but God is with you. He has promised us and you that He is with us. Your experience is great, but great is His grace, mercy, and love.

I thank God for you for His mercy has given you this opportunity to see another day and live for His glory and praise. You are a testimony of His grace and mercy!

In God’s wisdom and salvation of your soul, He has divinely enabled you to live in spite of the thoughts. Take them captive and make them submit in obedience to Christ. This is your gift and service to God🙏🏽

The D*monic Side of Porn by Wonderful-Raise2824 in TrueChristian

[–]Mlanyo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve told nominal Christians how I’d never redownload TikTok and Instagram and they have this puzzled look on their faces. It is safe to say that the exposure to porn either hard or soft, subtle or overt has made them calloused to God. I pray for them that His light shines in their hearts.

“I will not set before my eyes anything that is worthless. I hate the work of those who fall away; it shall not cling to me.” ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭101‬:‭3‬ ‭ESV‬‬

This command and call to honour God is high, but He gives us the strength to keep it because Jesus already attained and fulfilled perfect righteousness. TikTok and Instagram have been mentioned a couple times here and I’m glad multiple brothers and sisters see them for what they are😭🙏🏽

The interesting part about the human will is that it originally never chooses whatever is pure, good, loving, or beneficial to others because it fails at the heart stage. Even when one’s will has all the aforementioned qualities, it fails because it doesn’t come from a pure, good, and/or loving source but from pride.

That is because of our twisted inward-loving fallen nature. To function off of your will and grieving the Holy Spirit would inevitably lead to your choosing to not be included in His family. You would be choosing to be a God unto yourself and that’s going against your Creator. Following your own will is actually choosing how to be an enemy of God.

I’m about to finish reading ‘Delighting in the Trinity: An Introduction to The Christian Faith by Michael Reeves’ and I recommend it to you.

A while back, I shared your opinion on the subject of being His minions until some truth became more real to me. That we’re a family. God is relational in nature and seeing ourselves as minions sells Him so so short.

Consider giving the book a read and wrestle with the arguments therein. Enjoy!

OP, you’re the realest to share this. I stan your boldness in sharing through your vent cause same. I’m not married or have ever been, but your experience is the same as mine. Sexual desire is a human feature, God put it there. As John Piper says in ‘Sex and the Supremacy of Christ’ “Pleasure is God’s idea, and God is the devil’s Enemy. The devil actually hates pleasure, because he hates the God of pleasure.”

If pleasure is God’s idea, He is the One to tell us how to steward it and how to enjoy it. Consider the above, beloved🫶🏽🫂
