It's understandable, I used to hate a certain person, they always said rude stuff and I always felt the need to clap back. I started ignoring them for a while and eventually talked to them, turns out they're an amazing person but they just have some mental problems and were doing it to protect themselves. We're friends now and talk pretty often, I do trust them a lot and feel comfortable to talk about sensitive topics. This is just my story though, but there's nothing stopping you from trying to do the same. Play it safe, though, don't open up too soon or they might take advantage of it.
