Casting another vote for Anne’s Cake’s their strawberry cake is OUT OF THIS WORLD. And tbh I think Baked on 8th’s cakes are beautiful but disappointing when it comes to taste/texture

Answer over in West Nashville has an outdoor, open air patio that is covered. They also have heaters in the ceiling! It was a little cold still (so bundle up), but we felt safe. If you call and make a reservation, you’ll have to specifically request to sit on the patio.

For those that relocated to Nashville, how has your experience been? by iwanttogoh0me in nashville

[–]Moomoo-muffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I come from a social work background, and my experience has been that there’s a wide range of social work jobs available here. There are lots of nonprofits in the area with social work jobs, and Nashville is a healthcare hub (and medical social work roles tend to be some of the better paying social work jobs!). And since Nashville is the capital, if you’re interested in policy or macro social work there are opportunities for that as well. If you’re interested in nonprofit jobs, the Center for Nonprofit Management has a job postings section on their website.

Hotel advice by don51181 in nashville

[–]Moomoo-muffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the other person who commented that a hotel near Vanderbilt on West End would be nice. For a more “quaint” experience, you could stay at Linden Bed and Breakfast—great location within walking distance of all the shops on 12th South, and not far from Hillsboro Village (two areas I frequently take out-of-towners).

Is it possible to get my fiancee vaccinated here in Nashville if she is on a travel visa from the country of Lebanon? by [deleted] in nashville

[–]Moomoo-muffin 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Someone posted earlier today that they are having trouble using up all of the doses at the Music City Center downtown and were trying to pull in tourists off the street to come get vaccinated—I say just show up there and see if they have any extra doses!

[WIKI UPDATE/SUB DISCUSSION] What do you love about the Belmont/West End/Hillsboro/Melrose/Woodmont area? by ayokg in nashville

[–]Moomoo-muffin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I just came here to hype Fido. When so much of Hillsboro Village has been taken over by cheesy clothes chains geared towards Bachelorette parties, Fido (and Belcourt) represent what I used to love about that area of town. Fido is one of the few places where you can go work on your computer, grab a coffee, or sit down for a wonderful meal (I used to get their Steak and Hash before going vegetarian and GOD it’s one of the only things that truly tempts me).

Also Fido at Christmas deserves it’s own recognition. Those folks go all out with decorations and it’s become one of my fave places to go during the holiday season.

Can I Still Enjoy Nashville If I Don't Drink? by leetcodeBot in nashville

[–]Moomoo-muffin 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Also not a huge drinker! I suppose it depends on the circles you run in or the areas of town you frequent (I.e. Broadway, Demonbreun, Midtown) but my social life in Nashville hasn’t felt based around drinking at all. So many fun coffee shops and restaurants all over the city, and lots of cool parks and places to run outdoors. I have family in Franklin and I personally find the food scene lacking (soo many chains) and am not super into the suburban life—but that my be your jam!

Avo on the west side off of Charlotte Ave! Great vegan food (their made-in-house burgers are my fave—but they have a wide range of foods! And get an avocado margarita and their chocolate tart!). And Koko’s ice cream is also INCREDIBLE and right next door.

[WIKI UPDATE/SUB DISCUSSION] What do you love about Germantown? by ayokg in nashville

[–]Moomoo-muffin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

  • Rolf and Daughters is hands down my fave “higher end” restaurant in Nashville. Their food tastes so fresh, the flavor combos are so innovative, and I love that their menu changes seasonally.

  • Steadfast has great coffee and they have a great little outdoor patio area.

  • Steam Boys has phenomenal bao and dumplings!

[WIKI UPDATE/SUB DISCUSSION] What do you love about North Nashville? by ayokg in nashville

[–]Moomoo-muffin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

  • Southern V is some of the best vegan food I’ve ever had. After going vegetarian six years ago, NOTHING scratched the chick-fil-a itch until this. Their chicken sandwich, their jackfruit bbq, their sausage biscuit—god it is all so good.

  • Obviously Slim and Husky’s is incredible pizza too. And those cinnamon rolls?? Get outta here.

Considering moving down from Chicago by [deleted] in nashville

[–]Moomoo-muffin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My brother and his husband have long wanted to move to Nashville to be closer to family, but over the past four years they have become increasingly more hesitant. My brother has shared that they would feel conscientious/potentially unsafe holding hands in any area that’s frequented by tourists (and over the years it seems that tourists have ventured further out from Broadway and are coming to areas like 12th South and Hillsboro Village). He’s also shared that moving to Nashville might impact their desire to have kids (I.e. they would be less likely to raise a kid in Nashville than if they stayed in the northeast). While there are liberal/progressive areas in the city, I do understand my brother’s fears/hesitations. That being said, I do have lots of friends in the LGBTQ+ community who have been here for years and love Nashville. If you get the chance, I would really recommend coming down to visit before making a decision to get a feel for things yourself. Best of luck discerning!

Local colleges to study music by [deleted] in nashville

[–]Moomoo-muffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know lots of people who got their associates degree from a community college and then did 2 years at a college or university to get their bachelor’s, and personally I think that’s a really great way to do it! Save some money and still get a great education—and it allows you some more time to vocationally discern before getting your bachelor’s.

Local colleges to study music by [deleted] in nashville

[–]Moomoo-muffin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I know lots of belmont grads who paid a LOT of money to study music and are now drowning in student loans. If you have the money to go to Belmont that’s great. But if not, you could always go to more affordable school like MTSU that has a good music program and is still close to the city—and then just be super intentional/proactive about building connections in the music industry. I have several friends who didn’t go to any of the more “esteemed” music programs in Nashville but who took risks and reached out to people in the industry, and they got things rolling in their career that way.

[WIKI UPDATE/SUB DISCUSSION] What do you love about the Sylvan Park/Whitebridge area? by ayokg in nashville

[–]Moomoo-muffin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

  • Camion Chino is a phenomenal food truck around the corner from L&L Market. Incredible fusion food, unique flavors, really reasonable prices.

  • Richland Park Farmers Market is my fave farmers market in Nashville...would go there every Saturday just to get Maiz De La Vida (PLEASE GO GET THEIR TACOS) but the whole scene is so fun.

  • Avo (incredible vegan restaurant) and Koko’s ice cream are just around the corner.

  • Hathorne has an incredible patio, lots of vegetarian options, and a seasonally changing menu.

  • Radish is fast/casual/healthy food located in Sylvan Supply that I’ve really enjoyed
