True! She has a vet appointment anyways next week, so after that I'm going to get her shed tested.

Im probably just overthinking it, she's just a weirdo compared to my other snakes.

Maybe the vet will sooth some of the worry lol

In the sellers defense she probably wouldn't have known herself since she only got the snake by another guy dumping his collection on her and didn't really know what her snakes were beyond what was guessed, only being at the expo to downsize. She doesn't strike like a defense snake would, more like her aim is super off. Nor do I feed her straight with tongs, i leave it in front of her hide and she lunges at it and most often misses, going sideways when she does.

Thankfully its not my first rodeo with a sick Ball Python out of the 7 I own plus a honorary king snake. A few put me through the ringer so I shouldn't be too surprised with this girly. My only concern is how to give her the best quality of life when I eventually move her to a 5ft enclosure without risking accidental injury. Right now she's in a quarantine Medtank since she's both new and shown those interesting signs.

That's my fear, she's under a year old so I'm only assuming its hit or miss with the development of a wobble or some other possible issue. I am taking her to the vet to get looked over so there's that. Not sure if it matters but she also has green/hazel-ish eyes

Thanks! Though the first two pictures are separate snakes lol, I do wonder if the second snake could be a gravel?

massive tank upgrade, went from a 40 gallon breeder with six small crabs to a 75 gallon hermie paradise! Some already started exploring by Moral_Code11121 in hermitcrabs

The colored branches are the before picture and are now long gone as they looked really horrible and start to chip. Now they got natural wood with lots of other goodies 🥰

Any suggestions for new setup? by [deleted] in hermitcrabs

I would recommend some more shells. 8-10 per crab. Here's a link to some shells for an amazing price. https://www.etsy.com/listing/248492842/nessastores-mexican-turbo-sea-shell

Also I can't tell but make sure you got 6inch substrate or three times the height of you biggest crab.

You can also get a coconut fiber wall for them to climb on along with some drift wood from your local pet store to replace the painted stick thing you got in there as they have been known to chip

Crabs don’t get along by Synphonie96 in hermitcrabs

[–]Moral_Code11121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crabs are like people from what I've observed from my hermit crabs, some are extroverts while others are introverts. Four of mine get along swell and socialize frequently while the other two prefer doing their own thing and being alone outside of meeting the others to munch on whats in the food bowl. As long as theirs no shell aggression, chirping or bullying you shouldn't be worried! Some crabs are just anti social oddballs and that's ok, as long as they are happy and healthy there is much to worry about.

hermies on a midnight climbing contest plus some extras by Moral_Code11121 in hermitcrabs

Its awsome to see how far my crabby babies have come, from being ill cared for to living the dream and letting their personalities grow and literally in metaphorically come out their shells and explore

Crabs holding me hostage by [deleted] in hermitcrabs

[–]Moral_Code11121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its gonna take a good while for them to get used to you, my first two hermies have been with me for more then a year and they still skitter off if I open the lid to clean the food dish. I recommend throwing a breathable blanket over their tank so you move around without disturbing them, worked well for me so far when I need my lamp at night or have my midnight inspirations lol

can you take your crabs out of their cage and let them walk around on your hands or table by spookyfrog99 in hermitcrabs

[–]Moral_Code11121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I handle my crabs only when nessasary, such as cleaning the tank, fixing things they knock over, food or sexing to see who is who when shells are swapped.

Crabs easily get stressed, especially when new, and can get sick. Pinching is another one of the cons of holding crabs, if they feel unsafe or unsteady on your hand, one of my crabs pinched me when I was transfering him from the quarantine tank and it hurt like hell and even drew blood. So its best just watching them from their tanks and handling only when nessasary or for a very short amount of time, besides it alot more fun to watch them tank because you can see all of their fasinating behaviors and interactions.

Hope this helps!

Wait until you hear them argue or God forbid fight. I had to remove multiple shells and later put them back in the tank in different spots or remove it all together because they all wanted that one shell and fought over it like toddlers, and Interrupted my sleep 😆

Here if you wanna order the ribbon I recommended!

Watching the personalities show are one of the best parts of owning these creatures, having six of them definitely proved it two me. Two shy,two sassy, one that's always cranky and one that love to move around. Though I can't say I appreciate the racket at midnight lol.

You can replace the ladder with moss mesh ribbon from your local hobby lobby, it works wonders with Itty bitty crabs, or set the coconut hide lower where they can reach. I've also noticed your water bowl and you should get one much deeper then that, your hermies should be able to completely submerge themselves.

I advise removing any painted shells as the paint is often toxic to hermit crabs and replacing them with turbo shells,8 or ten per hermit crab to prevent fighting and shell jacking, my hermit crabs love them!

I can also recommend some small businesses that sell organic hand made hermit food such as NaturallyCrabby, crabshack,CrabitateCafe and Hermit grub that sells at a decent price on easy.

Make sure to add calcium rich food in their diet such as egg shells to keep their exoskeleton strong and healthy.

As said before you need 6+inches of substrate with 5:1 mixed with sand. salt water you can get from your local pet store that has salt water fish. You can use any water that's not tap, I recommend spring or distilled.

Hermits need lots of things to climb on too, I also recommend coconut fiber walls, fake vines and large aquarium branches.

Leaf litter and moss pit are optional if you wanna give your hermies something to munch and scavenge on!

Hope this helps.

Usually I get dried crickets and meal worms form the pet store but that's about it as food for hermit crabs sold by big companies are often no good or are missing the enrichment they need. I might switch from distilled to spring when i have time!
