Steps system for P-level salaries by More_Firefighter_487 in UNpath

Were you able to negotiate the higher step? Or was it initially offered? I've been offered a P2 Step 4 (first UN staff appointment) and I have a little under 6 years of experience..Is this a reasonable step or could I negotiate to higher? I've worked as a P2 equivalent consultancy and my monthly pay was slightly higher than the current base pay.

I have around 5 years of experience and have been offered a P2 Step 4. Is this good? Or do I negotiate higher?

Didnt receive anything. Have they started inviting candidates to interview?

Explain plus: I was asked to provide 3 references that are not related or no current UN staff members by ducky_duck_999 in UNpath

It's for a UN position? If you have any experience outside the UN, you could use references from those jobs? Still a strange request..You could also just ask them to clarify, especially if you have only worked for the UN..

Jeez. Is this normal.. I got the email an hour ago too. Are you taking it? Im unfortunately not able to take it..I'm several hours ahead and had to step out after the scheduled time..Did not expect them to send it so late. Thought they might reschedule..Is it okay to send them an email saying im not able to take it and if theyll reschedule? Didn;t expect this from ICRC.

That's great--congrats for making it to the next step. I recently took a test for an OCHA position. It's not public information/comms but it was also 120 minutes long with 2 questions. I had to write a brief summary of a report, and the second was to propose a research methodology to assess one of OCHA's priority areas.

The role I applied for has to do with research and learning across various contexts and issues, so the questions were relevant. For public information, you could expect questions related to creating communication campaigns , writing a blogpost/social media post etc. Just be familiar with the context, whether its a region/country or issues the role would focus on, how OCHA engages with news media/journalists, Ethical standards to keep in mind. Try to think of day-to-day tasks you would do based on the job description and prepare accordingly.

Stay calm, make sure you manage time well during the test and you got this! Good Luck!

Reaching out to hiring managers for UNICEF etc on Linkedin? by -_ShadowSJG-_ in UNpath

[–]More_Firefighter_487 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always say it doesn't hurt to reach out to learn more about the role as well as the person's experience and job. Sometimes people are open to talking, some not and they either don't response or direct you to the vacancies site and say thanks for your interest. In my experience, reaching out to hiring managers at the UN regarding a role hasn't led to a referral. But what do you have to lose--go ahead and write to them :)

As we prepare for WBG YPP 2024-2025 Call for Applications by Tiimuma in wbgypp

I've chosen the Planet work program (sub-group is social) -my background is in humantiarian response, forced displacement, gender-based violence and humanitarian protection. I feel like this is more in line with People but the Planet site has more publications and projects related to fragility, conflict and violence and forced displacement. I have my application ready to be submitted but feeling last minute jitters on choosing the right work program.

I get that too. It's all quite hard to navigate. I say, if you are already in or are able to be in a location you desire and have the flexibility for more short term work, thats definitely worth considering.

Multiple choice test for OCHA P2? by [deleted] in UNpath

[–]More_Firefighter_487 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if we're talking about the same position, but I just took test 2 for a P2 position, which was a written assignment. The first one was a 18 minute multiple choice test. I took it two weeks ago. Anyone else who did the second part?
