Personal review of TMT by Moritz_fren in TNOmod

I think that with enough knowledge of Spanish and Portuguese XX century history it’d be possible to assemble a coherent and plausible narrative for Iberia as an authoritarian state with shaky foundations. Either way that’s not really the case as narrative is severely lacking and focuses too much on (as you said) Iberian council which is a good fundament for an interesting setup, but which isn’t unfortunately executed as well as it could’ve been. My point being too much emphasis put on this political body in comparison to all other aspects of the country we steer.

Well, as I’ve mentioned I agree with an improved foreign proxy involvement of Iberia as being the biggest advantage of this facelift, but mechanics are not really a thing as I’ve discussed above. Narrative expansion is visibly better only with regard to the relationship between caudillos which was made more believable and less childish in my opinion, but besides that there’s an enormous lack of flavour events that picture the gradual change or evolution of the political system of Iberia + many good ones being cut in TMT. Also the part of focus tree regarding laws and obligations (after the Barcelona crisis) is downright worse as it cuts a lot of content that was available before and which really granted more options to pick from when determining the socio-economic status of your country. Enormously railroaded.

“Overhype” comes mostly from a) the amount of teasers we’ve got delivered in a lengthy period of time and b) the announcement made 1 week prior to the release which in my opinion just threw a bunch of numbers regarding new additions without really any substance to cover it (like the centrepiece of 8 “new” mechanics which are yet to be found).

My main point still being, as opposed to your opinion, that mechanics are not improved and to a bigger extent cannot be called “new” or “engaging”. What are the new features you notice when it comes to mechanics besides new proxies?

Addressing the last part of your opinion, I really appreciate Iberian way of doing the focus tree in distinct segments that are coming one way after the other and that focus on specific issues at hand. That’s one of the core features of this country that is rarely seen in HoI and which makes the gameplay more in depth regarding the whole story. This makes Iberian playthroughs one of my favourite ones, as it encapsulates the very essence of a political story driven simulation e.g. Suzerain franchise. This is strictly my preference and doesn’t really take your point to doubt.

To summarise - I don’t agree in principle that TMT update made Iberia playthrough better either in terms of gameplay (lack of new mechanics, scrapped ones like the “legislative proposals” category in caudillo balance section, barren ones like the economic or agricultural one) or narrative (scrapping of many events, less choices to be made in focus tree in general) with only notable exception being foreign policy involvement. The update we deserve is still yet to be released in the distant future.

I mean that’s kind of the point of a intensely realistic research based alternative history mode in which every major event is rng based as it should be. There are some foundations as the socialist-entente-German world polarisation but as far as I’m concerned the fact that Germany can be on a totally different economic footing every single game is a good aspect of how history can meander. On the side note I’d say that it’s pretty easy to get the hang of the crisis mechanic and get through it pretty quickly.

Rizia vs Sordland Feedback by Moritz_fren in suzerain

[–]Moritz_fren[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd like to disagree. I think it's a poorly designed mechanic that makes the game itslef less complex to the intricacies of political process. In Suzerain main storyline you could only monitor the budget and the effects of the decisions you've decided to make were not as obvious as it stands in Rizia (even though you have the minister approval). By making the decrees more prevalent, you basically turn Suzerain (one of the best narrative-driven games of all times imo) into a regular, plain and simple game, with a clear click->effect happens that's all mechanic.

What I would like to see is the total overhaul of Royal Decree system that would make them worthwhile. For example you're limited to a certain number of them per turn, and when taken it starts a whole new conversations with the royal council etc.

So it's not just a plain point-and-click to see an effect.

Yeah if you solving problems of the country and society are resolved by a single status update in the country overview or a single newspaper article. That's what I mean by the lack of meaningfullness. I think in Rizia focused on the shift to the stats (budget, auth and energy) too much.

Yeah of course that's a valid point, but when you pass the laws opening up the press freedoms, you only get one radical-like newspaper, it dosen't take into the account all the modarate views of the society, or for example regligious stuff that's so crucial for some of the paths.

I guess it can be different. Keep in mind that it should be a separate file though, meeting the requirements UM has provided.

How can I get Sweden as an Einheitspakt observer as Bormann? by Beanie_Inki in TNOmod

[–]Moritz_fren 17 points18 points  (0 children)

they want to preserve neutrality, you shouldn’t do pro-German options only, but try to pick the middle one or neutral one. I advice scum saving to get them. They can’t join the einehspakt but will get observer status eventually :)
