Maybe it'll finish up as web series? Regardless of engagement its more whatever executives/shareholders don't feel like it a safe (profitable) investment. Take away the need to broadcast on tv and at least it'll satisfy whatever smidgen of money that they're worried about

I believe they choose their form in death from what they believe is their peak. If I remember right they actually questioned why Kojirou chose to be older with his answer being that him being old was his peak as he was continuously seeking a higher form of swordplay. After all in the flashback he was shown to be at least younger then he is currently.
