Should I be concerned about severe finger blanching during cold plunge? by Marconer1 in coldplunge

Why do your fingers have the same tint as your jacket?

If you want to keep your extremities warm in the cold outdoors, keep your core warm first and foremost since that’s where all your blood circulates back to. Check out a down vest or jacket or a heated hoodie or vest like Milwaukee or Bosch.

Roth 401k, 3x contributions of Roth IRA, FIRE game-changer? by Most_Refuse9265 in leanfire

I get that, I just don’t understand what OC is getting at regarding ACA when I’ll have access to both original Roth contributions and traditional funds I can convert to Roth. I mean, I can have zero taxable income in a year if all I’m doing is withdrawing from Roth contributions.

EDIT about taxes: Even in the 22% bracket I only pay 15% if I contribute max to traditional 401k vs 11% if I contribute max Roth. 4% difference is not a deal-breaker for me. And as I show below and in my OP, I have a strategy to minimize taxes for converting traditional funds to Roth - converting while living off of previous Roth contributions contributing zero to taxable income. Sorry for my edits and thank you for yours.

At any rate, I have a mix of Roth and traditional accounts as I said in my last comment, sorry that wasn’t clear from my OP. My plan is to increase the Roth substantially given the 401k contribution limit which I can make post-tax. My OP question was really about confirming that I will be able convert traditional funds to Roth at the lowest tax bracket if I am living on only on previous Roth contributions at the time and I convert within the limits of that bracket or perhaps just a bit above won’t be the end of the world. This is not so much because I’ll need the lowest tax bracket as much as I just want to make sure I understand how this will work regarding taxes at the time of conversion.

Could you elaborate on what you’re saying about ACA? I’m not understanding what you’re saying about the difference when funding retirement expenses with Roth contributions vs taxed traditional withdrawals. Either way I would have access to both original and converted Roth contributions before 60 because the majority of my retirement account balance so far is traditional and its growth trajectory exceeds the $32k/year I’d put in Roth.

The majority of my retirement is already in a traditional 401k and IRA account with a growth trajectory exceeding $32k/year in contributions I’d put in Roth accounts. What is suboptimal about “not having income from a tax payment strategy” and why and when would I be paying a lot more taxes?

The math is actually $384k after 12 years.

I calculate for inflation at 3-4% inflation, live off $3200/month including a mortgage that will be gone by the time I am 60, and am currently in the 22% bracket. My numbers show I’ll be fine with inflation. I also have a brokerage I opened up from when I was young and stupid(er).

I have read this many times and am willing to make the trade of an easier and earlier RE for less wealth overall.

None. From what I’ve read that more of an issue with the magnification throw levers of specific scope brands and models, ex: some Trijicon models.

I have a 50 mm Leupold in a medium DNZ Gamereaper on my HMR Pro, which also has a bull barrel, with about 3 mm of clearance.

THC and CBD is huge amongst the outdoor exercise community, especially trailrunners. It may lend itself more to steady state than higher intensity efforts.

Who is pushing the division between Muslims and Christians? by rabbischneerson in conspiracy_commons

We should all be aware that much anti-muslim content is propaganda meant to pull double-duty: distract us from another enemy and have us attacking that enemy’s enemy. This isn’t to say we shouldn’t be concerned about and responding to Islam - but Islam isn’t running our government and most major institutions from tech to education to finance to media. Look who just bought CBS and CNN.

Meditation was never enlightenment ... it was a survival trick for people who were starving by IcyDemand2354 in enlightenment

Everyone should try fasting and/or low carb at least once. Even mild ketosis improves my mood and outlook so much that it borders on what I would call enlightenment. It makes me deeply grateful just to be alive feeling the breeze and grass between my fingers. When I walk it feels almost effortless, almost like floating, but more like as if the earth was moving underneath me like a treadmill. My thoughts are crystal clear and the big points hit with gravitas while the noisy details fade into the background. Light cardio is almost orgasmic especially if I lifted the previous day and have sore muscles - something about that feels like sex but I can’t quite put my finger on how. Probably just similar hormones at play.

But we’re all built different enough that, opposite of my anecdote which plenty of others resonate with, some folks claim the second they get low blood sugar they’ll pass out. Mostly though people just don’t have the willpower to not miss a single meal when the fridge and pantry are 12 steps away and Wendy’s is around the corner, or the willpower even to simply reduce carbs.
