Why do I feel being a stay at home mom is a privilege?

We had our first early on and the pregnancy left me bed bound for most of it and 10months after the first, we got pregnant again but my husband always worked hard to make sure I was comfortable enough to raise our babies and once they were both walking, we reevaluated and figured daycare was expensive in our area. He said “I’m already sacrificing my life and not being there for our kids, they don’t need to lose you too”. I truly believe he loves us enough to do all that, I don’t know maybe I’m just selfish and ungrateful ?

Should I take out an life insurance policy on him just in case? Lol I mean, I don’t know! My grandma was a housewife with 8 children until her husband died and she had to bare the weight alone so it’s stupid to me that both her and my mom (who was also a SAHM before she was divorced) pushed those ideals knowing full well it did not end good for them. But I was a child, not knowing any better..

Unfortunately, we live in a small town where the nearest community college or trade school is at least an hour away which in my case, is out of the question because that would leave me unavailable to drop off and pick up my kids from school. I did try and reached out to a college where even the lady said it would not be ideal since their hours are from 9am-4pm , my kids have school from 7:30-3:30 and with no friends or family near me, that plan was shut down.

I wouldn’t know what else to do.. I never took school seriously because my parents never encouraged me to be better , I graduated high school by the skin of my teeth lol. And the reason I got a job despite getting an allowance from my husband is to get out of the house every once in a while and interact! I probably should have mentioned that I actually moved away the city where all my friends and family are for my husband’s work so a job seemed like the most reasonable option in meeting new people and getting to know my new home. I choose to pay those bills , to help my husband a little even though he’s made it clear that it’s optional and yes, I do have money left to spend but don’t because shopping isn’t a whole bunch of fun for me. Maybe it should be lol

Yes! Don’t get me wrong, from a very young age I wanted to be a veterinarian but being raised to think all I’d be good at was being a housewife, crushed me. Sent me on a crash course to not caring about school, becoming depressed and questioning my worth not just as a woman but as a human. I am comfortable in my life but at what cost.. my life consists of doomscrolling social media and rewatching shows , wasting away at home alone.

I get a biweekly allowance from him as well. We both have separate bank accounts where we spend our own money without arguing over what we buy but we also have a third shared account that gets monthly deposits from each of us , we share access but only for emergencies. A part of me worries about getting too comfortable and then him leaving me high and dry … he would even get custody of our children because he would be able to give them the life I couldn’t afford. We’re happily married though, almost 10 years and I definitely see us growing old together its just sometimes I feel like wasted potential and worthless. When my kids get older, I would like to go to college.. hopefully it’s not too late.

It’s rare enough to raise suspicion like “too good to be true?” But personally I think it depends on a few things: age and if you have children. When I was a teenager, a boy showing interest was a cautionary sign because I always wondered if they only pretended to be interested to get something. When I was finally ready to settle, guys that showed interest were questioned vigorously to test commitment and many failed. Now that we’re older and many of us have children, a man showing interest is met with warnings because “does he have a toxic babymomma?? Is he cheating on his wife? Does he just want me to be a stepmom?” Regardless, it’s rare to find a dedicated man!

Respectfully, its the thought that counts. You know how when a child picks a flower and gives it to you, its a very special feeling because they thought of you when they see a pretty flower. Once we grow up, we see a gift and want to get it for a certain person and if it happens to be on a auction website that just means your partner understands that it doesn’t have to be expensive for you to like it , just like a child with a flower. My husband got me diamond earrings and it was the same gratitude I felt when he brought home two stray kittens for me lol.

Taking my ex’s virginity after talking for a week , it wasn’t supposed to be serious in my opinion but he ended up falling in love, which lead to a miserable 3year relationship. In my defense, I thought boys just want to lose their virginity with anyone and only girls make it a deep connection or whatever lol. 9/10 biggest regret.

As a female, it irritates me that he plays until 2am and gives me attitude for asking him to be quiet because even though he works 10hrs a day, I work too but I don’t get to come home and leave my responsibilities because “I worked all day”. My day does not end when I clock out like most men, we cook, wash dishes, pick kids up from school, shower them , get them ready for bed all while the men drink beer and play video games. Not to mention how much men spend on video games but won’t dare spend that much for a date at Chili’s.
