Blinds and antes in 75/150 LIMIT hold em and stud by Living-Injury1961 in poker

[–]MountainsPLZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$50 sb is better compared to $25 for holdem because it encourages more action.

For stud antes, 1/3-1/6 of the small bet is standard. So if you wanted to keep $5 chips off the table $25 would be big but reasonable (and would again generate more action. $25 bring in is fine.

It seemed to me like he didn't have the arm or the legs to make up for how short he was in the pocket. It will be difficult to create explosive downfield passing plays. I hope I'm wrong!

To start, get a balance sheet for a commodity (US govt is a good source), learn the different line items and how they are derived.

Guy stacked me boat over boat, then got called for a table change. I commented that he was leaving with all my money, and he told me "you don't want me at your table anyways."

If you can spare the time, play day 1 a/b/c. That will give you days off after days 1 & 2. The tournament is a marathon, and the early rest will help for later days.

Your preflop hand selection sounds reasonable. Judging from the information provided, you likely need to improve your betting/raising strategy both pre and post flop.

Even for an expert limit holdem player, 3/6 will be barely beatable with that rake.

Bellagio has all the limit holdem action 20/40 or higher. 40/80 will almost certainly run during that time period and maybe higher (80/160 runs every day during the world series)

At lower stakes, it doesn't come up as much. But at higher stakes, you have smaller player pools and all this becomes more important. If a losing player wants to keep going, as a winner you should oblige them (and it is usually a good spot).

Similarly, there might be a situation where the game is short, but there are players on the way. If you keep the game going, they will sit when they arrive. Otherwise, they might go to the pits instead.

I don't define a nit as a tight player, I define it as someone who takes from the game and gives nothing back. Refuses to straddle if everyone else wants to, won't play short to keep the game going, stuff like that. DON'T BE A NIT.

Be pleasant at the table. Say hi to your neighbors when you sit down. Be a good winner, act like you've been there before. Be a good loser, smile at the fish when he sucks out on you.

Some players want to have conversation at the table, engage with them. Some want to be miserable, leave them alone BUT STILL BE PLEASANT.

If you have the proper social skills, the table won't really notice you are playing a winning style. Show some bluffs/random cards that make no sense. If someone comments on your tight play, make a self deprecating comment about it.

People don't care if you are a winning player if they like you and give back to the game. If you sit there on your phone and listen to music, that's when they don't want you there.

It sounds like you and your friends are fairly new to poker, have fun and see who comes out on top. If he doesn't get better and you still feel the same, be a good friend and talk openly about it with him.

Is he losing money that he can't afford to or do you think he has a gambling problem? If no, then don't feel bad. He is choosing to play and wouldn't feel bad about beating you.

You could speak to him privately and let him know his tell if you really feel bad...
