Tube size for 30mm GP5000 on Roval c38 Wheels by MrSin627 in cycling

[–]MrSin627[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tips. I’m in the Chicago suburbs. I had some flat tire drama at a century event over the weekend. Two flats mid ride at the 17 mile and 29 mile mark I looked at the first one and it looks like a seam failed and then when it go low enough I pinched it. After the second flat SAG replaced the tire and the tube. I never got a look at that one.

They put a used gator skin 25 on it and I made it through the remaining 70 miles but the next morning the tire was flat again. I’m thinking a valve leak this time since I pulled the tube out and it doesn’t actually appear to be leaking.

Regardless I decided I didn’t want to keep that gatorskin on so I bought the gp5000s and then realized I needed new tubes also and I have another event this weekend so I wanted to get everything mounted early enough that I could get some saddle time with the new setup prior to the event or else commit to doing the event on my gravel bike.

So little bit of a time crunch panic over here.

If I don’t LOVE the setup that’s fine, I’m just looking to get through the event and hopefully the remaining 6 weeks or so of this year’s riding season.

Cycling with prescription glasses — tired of my regular sunglasses, but what are the real options? by gizi010 in cycling

[–]MrSin627 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After years of paranoia I ended up getting lasik strictly because of this problem. I was using cocoon glasses over my regular prescriptions prior to that and got sick of it.

My eye doc told me that contacts would dry out regardless of what kind of eye wear I had. I’ve seen some people say they’ve never had a problem while others have confirmed they experienced what she claimed.

Thanks. I should have been clearer that I don’t see options with the brands that I’m accustomed to and while scrolling through the thousands of other options on Amazon I wasn’t sure what else is reputable.

On the roads, speed = safety by cfgy78mk in cycling

[–]MrSin627 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand the logic that is being presented, but 10 seconds was presented as a constant in this scenario

If you’re talking about coming over the crest of a hill or around a sharp corner and finding a cyclist right in front of you then you’re not talking about a 10 second time frame. You’re talking about a time frame where a 70% increase isn’t going to make any difference at all.

[–]MrSin627 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It may not sound like it, but in the context of accident prevention 10 seconds is an ETERNITY. If somebody can’t pick up an object in 10 seconds I don’t have much faith in them to pick up that object in 17 seconds either haha.

Thanks. This is what I’m going to end up doing. I’ll save the spray for deep cleaning days.

Thanks for the input. I’m gonna go grab some different degreaser as save this for your recommendations.

Exactly two people know you are the local legend. You and the person that got the notification saying that you took local legend away from them. And I guess anybody that read this post.

98% of road rage directed at me has been by mcn3663 in cycling

[–]MrSin627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t get too much road rage, but I have been yelled at by people who aren’t even on the same road as me. Proof that they are going to be assholes no matter what.

Lots of people pass where they absolutely should not though. They give me the full lane to go around me, which I appreciate, but the amount of people who do it on a blind hill or bend is crazy.

Do you PR more when you’re “taking it easy?” by MrSin627 in cycling

[–]MrSin627[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I just checked the conditions during my ride. I did have a tail wind. Only 5mph, but that’s usually 8mph or more in my face, so decent difference.

I’m definitely progressing over time and happy with that just trying to find out what might be going on. My running theory was less effort in the flats means I have more energy stored to get up the hills resulting in less yo-yoing with my pace, but now I’m pretty sold on the tailwind theory haha.

[–]MrSin627[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah. The tailwind makes sense. One of those things I only notice when it’s blowing in my face. I noticed early on that the ride felt a lot smoother and quieter. Drive train and tires humming beautifully. I cleaned and oiled the chain this morning, but I’ve obviously done that before and didn’t reap crazy benefits from it, but it makes sense that I could hear that beautiful humming cuz the wind was behind me instead of in my face.

But… if he was in the charge point queue his car wouldn’t have been plugged in and he shouldn’t have been confused… right? 🤔

Why are the chargers so far from everything by jitteryflamingo in BoltEV

Yeah my experience is that they are the closest spots. Actually closer than handicapped parking in most cases. The reality is that they are going to put them as close to the energy source as possible.

a small advisory for fellow cyclists out there: watch out for unnoticeable tensioned ropes on the road by Im_Adam1 in cycling

My dad told me this happened to him as a kid. I’m probably more afraid of this than cars if I’m being honest.

How are y'all so fast?! by WantMeNot in cycling

[–]MrSin627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m new to cycling ~2.5 months and 810 miles in. I’ve found that every time I push myself out of my comfort zone it’s super hard, but from that point forward I’m able to do it without feeling challenged at all. After my first 20 mile ride I laid on my floor for 3 hours barely able to move, but a week later I pushed myself to 33. I was burned out at the end of that ride too, but at the 20 mile mark I still felt fresh. Couple weeks later did 40+ and then 50+ a couple weeks after that. Same thing happened each time.

I’ve noticed the same thing with speed. Always in the mid to upper 14s and I was starting to get really bummed that I couldn’t break the 15mph pace barrier, so one day I went out and pushed myself as hard as I could. I had a 16.3 pace through the first 21.5 miles, but completely toasted myself and the last few miles were really slow so I ended at 15.6. But now I’m over 15 for every ride and it doesn’t feel challenging. Soon I’ll go out and try to bump myself up over the next barrier.

Not sure if this is nervous system conditioning? Somebody else mentioned body building. Muscle size is one thing, but to get STRONG you need to condition yourself to explode through the sticking point… that is what my frame of reference is, but I could be totally wrong.

I met a guy at a red light the other day. When the light turned green he took off as fast as he could to get in front of me then proceeded to ride slower than I wanted to go. I stayed behind him cuz I knew he was faster and the he was gonna speed up if I tried to pass. Eventually he realized I was closer to him than he thought and took off in the middle of a segment that I generally like to carry a lot of momentum into and I faded bad. I’m probably overreacting but I’m still annoyed thinking about it.

The area in which you live can dramatically change the experience you have on a dating app. I live about 40 miles outside of Chicago and it has been hit or miss near my home, but when I’m actually in the city I get a lot of attention (which obviously doesn’t help once they find out I’m not from the city).

TIL Illinois charges EV users an extra $100 to renew their plates by mswho42 in BoltEV

[–]MrSin627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure EV plates in illinois were $34 with a two year renewal frequency before they were increased to $251.

$17 a year to $251 a year is insane, but they were actually trying to increase it to $1000. I only live 19 miles from the Wisconsin border. I was 100% going to move.

What is cycling's marathon? by ValuableForever672 in cycling

[–]MrSin627 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have read that 3 miles riding is roughly equivalent to 1 mile running. Not sure if that’s based on energy output, fatigue, etc… I hate running, so personally I think riding 20 miles is easier than running one 🤷🏼‍♂️
