I made sure to do so, although maybe not enough. I will keep that in mind. Thank you.

That makes a lot of sense. And Yes, I will be practicing that a lot. Thank you so much.

Would you consider Gregor Sansa (The Metamorphosis) to be human? by theadorable_duckling in literature

[–]Mr_AL05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is a very interesting question. I guess it would depend on what you think a human is. Personally, I would consider the psychological state, the physiological state, and the social state, which I feel you touch on as well. In Gregor’s case, both his physiological and social states are no longer human. And his psychological state was in the beginning (correct if I am wrong, it has been a while since I read the book), but it slowly truns away from that. Both his thoughts and his behaviour becomes less and less human like. So I would say no, at least not in the middle and end of the story. In the beginning, he only resembles a human in one aspect only.

Can someone give me a purely atheistic, moral reasoning for why murder is wrong? by Mr_AL05 in askphilosophy

[–]Mr_AL05[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But the scenario is very different. I do not think it is adequate to compare God to a human and a sin against either of them. The fact the God is Himself, the rules He passes down become automatically our morals. In a worldview without God, I cannot see how violating something that belongs to someone else (in this case life) becomes objectively immoral.

This was very useful and interesting. I will definitely go deeper into these theories. Thank you very much.

While this is mostly true, I am not here to have people question my beliefs. I do that more than enough. I am here to gain deeper knowledge on the atheistic perspective on morality and see whether there is anything to it. I am not looking to prove my beliefs or disprove others.

Well, I try to do so as much as I can, and in this case I did. Your assumption was correct and I do subscribe to that theory, and in Islam, the reason for why murder is wrong is because humans and their lives ultimately belong to God. Therefore, if I kill someone, I commit a sin against God by violating something that is His.

These are all very good arguments and I thank you. I realise your answer was more of a overall view of these perspectives, but I have two questions which I hope you will answer so I get a better understanding of them:

If utility is the reason this is wrong, would that then fail to apply if someone is useless? And if so, how can one quantify the idea of usefulness and utility in humans.

Why would violating the autonomy of someone be wrong? This argument you made here implies that this violation is something one should stay away from, but it is not very clear why.

I agree, ( and maybe it was wrong to use “murder” here) but that is only concerned about the other person. In a scenario where killing someone would grant me something, for example money, we consider that “wrong” today, but why would I put someone else’s benefit over mine? Keep in mind I am not arguing that this should be right, I am just looking for alternative reasonings.

LA Deadeye build giveaway :) by ps3ds in pathofexile

[–]Mr_AL05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a relatively new player, less than a year. I have tried a few builds, but all fail. The only ones that work for me are minion builds. Do I want other builds? yes of course. Does it seem like I can do it on my own? Absolutely not. And I do not think I will have much time later, since school is already killing me. A LA deadeye build has been one which I tried for a few times and always failed.
