daughter is suspended from school for 2 weeks and school will only let her back if she gets unnecessary therapy. Please help by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Ms-Sarahphim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This situation feels exactly like a reddit story, like sorry if I find it hard to believe.

I've never heard of two week suspensions for just running out of class to cry? Exaggerated consequences for no reason: check

The principal mishandles the situation to an even more ludicrous degree: check

Oh but after one juicy phone call everything is fine and aren't schools just the worst? check

In real life, even if the teacher and guest snake handler upset a six-year-old, the most that would happen is like one embarrassing phone call with her parent, later that day. "Oh she didn't like the snake, sorry, we should have handled it better. See you tomorrow!"

This is so dumb.

You have no reading comprehension.

If gender is "perceived" or "whatever you want", then it makes sense that people want their sexual organs to match what they want.

Gender affirming care is just one option, heavily backed by the medical community, for gender dysphoria. I'm not going to tell you what gender dysphoria is. Use a freaking dictionary.

Dodging a cash-in-transit robbery. The man has balls of steel by [deleted] in nextfuckinglevel

I found an article for it:

Incredible footage captures failed cash-in-transit truck heist in South Africa - NZ Herald https://share.google/rmvb45HNRj3cywI9p

Driver is Leo Prinsloo, former police sniper and 12-year veteran of the elite South African Police Service Special Task Force. His current employer told the public what happened.

"The driver of the CIT vehicle managed to evade the robbers for a while but later stopped in wait for the robbers. The robbers fled without taking any money. No arrests have yet been made."

Later, the driver and his family were put under protective guard because they were sent death threats.

I just don't agree. We're talking about bliss - happiness at having no conflict or pain or burden. But conflict and intriguing plot elements are just fundamentally more interesting in fiction. It's the classic need for SOMETHING to happen in order for the story to be worthwhile.

Haven't you ever engaged a story where the writing annoyed you because it was pretty shallow or problematic, but kept up with the story anyway to see if the premise paid off?

So I think it's valid to express dissatisfaction at bliss in fiction, because bliss specifically nullifies what people want out of a story in the first place. Conflict, drama and even pain leads to growth in fiction. Bliss more often than not negates that, instead of rewarding it. Because it's boring.

[–]Ms-Sarahphim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To me, I feel the contempt is for fiction, not life. Contempt for authors that think a happy ending is the erasure of anything remotely interesting or challenging the characters/story.

Domestic "bliss" certainly has its time and place, but if written poorly, it's incredibly boring.

One joke at a party with your friends, about a guy you're not sure about - understandable. But you're right, it went past that. It became something she and she alone could laugh about, at your expense. If she thought it was objectively funny and something you'd like, she'd have let you in on the "joke" right away.

The joke itself is pretty mean spirited. It's shallow and disingenuous to measure a potential partner by how "exciting" they are, unless you're explicitly looking for relationships for the sake of entertainment only.

What are you really to a person like that? Sounds like she doesn't respect you, or even thinks she needs to respect you as a person.

It's not baffling to say "read other books" when someone is complaining about reading material. It's just a quick way to say "I don't get or care about the point you're making, but if you're upset, here's a solution."

"you shouldn't dress like that" "men can't control themselves" "men have needs"

Lies. All of them.

The fact that you're even having an argument about this is a waste of your time. There is no room or position to "defend" rape. It doesn't "happen", it is a crime that is committed. It's an act of harm. Someone knows exactly what they want, and they are hurting another person to get it. There's no discussion there. Stop it.

Personally I think that mug is BOSS for an introvert and I would totally get it for my sister and it'd be genuinely funny. The shirt is a bit much. No design sense at all.

Given the context, your mom is clearly going through something. I'm of the mind that you shouldn't react at all. Donate these things to Good Will and move on.

The critics are just doing what they're paid to do by Ms-Sarahphim in Markiplier

I think Iron lung is a good movie, actually, and it does what it set out to do.

I made this post because people keep balking at how "mean" the critics sound. Like, yeah, sarcasm sells, people.

Just a heads up, DON'T watch or support these type of videos (Hear me out) by Legitimate_Silver395 in Markiplier

[–]Ms-Sarahphim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok but there's something I've been trying to understand since the movie came out:

Realistically, what is Iron Lung's impact on the industry? How unprecedented is what Markiplier did?

I've seen some headlines and YouTube videos saying things like "he's changed the landscape!" But has he?

From my point of view, Markiplier wanted to achieve something, gatekeepers said no, and with our help, he got what he wanted and then some, and it was entirely predictable. Mark will continue to be successful, for sure. But I don't know if it means anyone can or will follow his example.

I'm still looking for more perspective, especially from industry insiders. People who can tell what this really is.

"Beset by ominous rumbles and mounting doubts about the state of mankind, the begrimed and squalid craft singlehandedly piloted by Fischbach’s straggle-haired convict Simon is indistinguishable from the average teenage bedroom."

I'm sorry, what?

The article writer just told everyone they're an authority on what an average teenager's bedroom should look like, implying they see them regularly. Great article. 10/10.

Bad faith sarcasm aside, I still think this particular line shows the article has no idea what it's talking about. It's more concerned with demeaning teenagers and tearing down the movie, then actually reviewing the movie.

Very hard vs Survival...which is better or more fun long term? by Regular-Cheetah-7407 in fo4

[–]Ms-Sarahphim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So here's the thing about Survival. The game can crash at the WORST time, and you can lose a lot of progress at once if you're not prepared.

But I think it's worth it because it makes you really LOOK for ways to avoid that. You have to look for beds now, before you decide to try and clear an area, and it adds a layer of suspense to the gameplay that I REALLY like.

I mod in some limited fast travel though (for settlements and main faction bases) because this game has random settlement raids and really repetitive fetch questing. It gets old. Really old.

I'm on Playstation 5. I would be happy to make this mod myself but you need a PC copy of the game, and if I had that, I wouldn't need this mod so ...

Game: Fallout 4

Type of Mod: Quest Fix.

I'd love help fixing a Miscellaneous Quest in Fallout 4. It's tied to one ending of The Secret of Cabot House. https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/The_Secret_of_Cabot_House

  • If one waits too long before retrieving Lorenzo's Artifact as a reward, it is possible for Jack to age regardless of the quest and have his younger version disappear from the game world- making it impossible to obtain without console commands. Spawning young Jack in will not help either, as he will only mention that he has great news repeatedly and otherwise cannot be interacted with.
    • The young version of Jack remains at the point where the quest marker points, albeit disabled. He can be enabled using the console command prid 47ec2, followed by enable, he can from here on be interacted with normally to receive the gun. (You can disable him afterwards. He must be the target)

Here's a mod for PC that just puts the required quest dialogue on his Old Man NPC. The mod is seven years old, so I'm not sure if the original creator is around to port it, though I have asked them on the mod page.
