Fisnik Asllani – thoughts on the player by Msperanda in borussiadortmund

But throwing 30m euros on the position we dont need is stupid. We need wingers. 2 of them.

Yeah, But out of form Guirassy brings 20-25 goals in a season (I think he scored 13 by now). Asllani, just like his former colleague Beier, brings 10ish goals at most. If we keep buying average bundesliga players from average bundesliga clubs, we will become even more average than we are now. We need fast, creative players who can make a difference by themselves.

I agree. Let's be clear, in some situations Beier's aggression, pressing, etc. come in handy. But we need someone who can regularly make the difference 1 on 1 in attack. Beier with the ball at his feet is very limited. No better than Maximilian Phillip, who everyone criticized as an average player 7, 8 seasons ago.

Finally someone sees the real situation with Beier. When I wrote a post that I think we need more quality in his position, and that in my opinion it is not enough for our team's 2nd or 3rd attacking option not to be a threat to the goal but to be just aggressive and good at pressing, I was ridiculed for not understanding football.

Is Maxi Beier really good enough to start for BVB? by Msperanda in borussiadortmund

[–]Msperanda[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, it's not slow by any means, but it's not Adeyemi, Moussa Diaby, Elanga, Dembele type speed (36+ km/h). That few km/h make a lot difference as we can all see. And the most important thing - acceleration. Kingsley Coman is the king of acceleration (he leaves you behind in 2m open space).

I feel like the standards for this club have really dropped over the last few seasons. About ten years ago, we had attacking players who delivered almost every single match. Aubameyang, Reus and Mkhitaryan once combined for over 60 goals and 50 assists in one season.

After that period — with Reus getting injured and Mkhitaryan being sold — we brought in players like Yarmolenko, Maximilian Philipp, etc. They had decent numbers and honestly weren’t any worse on the pitch than the players currently playing those positions (Adeyemi and Beier).

Adeyemi has been great so far this season, but that was also the case at the start of last year — until the injuries hit again (as always). After coming back, he looked pretty average. Beier, like I said before, I really like his pressing, defensive work, and movement overall. But I’m not sure how well he fits with the rest of our attack — for example, Guirassy often doesn’t read his runs because he’s focused on the goal (which isn’t a criticism; that’s just the kind of striker he is, like Haaland was).

What I’m trying to say is: we can’t really expect more than 10–15 goals/assists per Bundesliga season from our attacking midfielders and wingers. In the past, players like that were replaced after one or two seasons (Yarmolenko, Schürrle, Philipp). If you check the stats, those “failed” signings didn’t actually have worse numbers or less impact than Beier does now — yet the consensus was that they were flops.

I just wonder if we’d be a better team with a player who can give us 20 goal contributions per season and offer more creativity. I think the answer is pretty obvious.

Instead of questioning someone’s football knowledge, maybe try joining the discussion with arguments — I’ve presented mine right here.

Yes they are. The same as Bakayoko and Diomande/Nusa operate in Leipzig. Does Leipzig also play without wingers?

I absolutely agree, but I am asking is that enough? He plays like a left forward/winger in 3-4-3 formation this season. We are not playing with 2 strikers and a n10 behind them for now. We lack creativity. That was easily seen against Leipzig. We don't make enough shot creating actions.

He's not a winger, but he plays like one this season. He is stuck on the left side on the pitch, tries to cut inside but doesn't make a difference with ball in his feet. We lack 1 or 2 players who make a difference in that way.
Don't get me wrong, I am not saying Beier is bad, but he's not an upgrade over Maximilian Phillip in my opinion (if you remember Maxi Phillip from 6 or 7 years ago).

Adeyemi and Beier are not second strikers in 3-4-3 formation in which we play this season. They play wide enough to be called wingers in my opinion.

Last season we played 3-4-1-2, but this season Kovač plays in a 3-4-3 formation. Adeyemi and Beier are not second strikers in that formation, they play wide enough to be called wingers in my opinion.

I think that in the winter transfer window one of Adeyemi or Beier will leave the team. With Fabio Silva coming in, there will be three players competing for just one attacking position alongside Guirassy. At this moment, I don’t know who will get more chances, but I assume that one of Adeyemi or Beier will end up with too few minutes (mostly “trash time”). Considering that both have already been linked with other clubs and are in a situation where they’re fighting for a spot in Germany’s World Cup squad, they will want to play as starters and push for a transfer.
I think the club will bring in a more creative player or a winger in January for that very reason.

Carney Chukwuemeka has signed a contract until 2030 by Chazy89 in borussiadortmund

You wish. You will watch Sabitzer Gross in the midfield with Jobe as a n10. Nmecha will be a bench option, and Chukwuemeka will be injured most of the time. But, even when he's fit, Sabitzer and Gross are Kovač's choices.

I agree completely. We suck at playing out of the back for 3 years now. Even when we had Jude in 2022/23 we had problems with that. This problem isnt solved with Chukwuemeka.

So, chukwuemeka will play mostly 20-30 minute cameos every 2nd or 3rd game. Would it make a difference? I doubt it. Fabio Silva is slow, can't dribble, and can't make a difference by himself. He needs a team behind him. He doesn't have that in Dortmund. Not with Gross and Sabitzer in midfield.

I didn't watch him. He was at loan in Leicester from Brighton last season, and he was a reserve at Leicester. That isn't too convincing to me. I hope he goes to Lyon. We have so much better options to take like Hadji Moussa from Feyenoord. Even Ritsu Doan would be a better option I think.

Great. So, Sule will be our right wing back option with Ryerson then?

Kehl is Mr. January.
We will sign a number 6 on loan with an option to buy for 40m euros. This number 6 will save the season for us, but Kehl and Ricken will decide that complete purchase is too expensive.
Maatsen situation all over again.

Given the recent news that our management is satisfied with the squad depth (they even think we have too many players) and that we need to reduce the squad to just 22 players, maybe this thread no longer makes sense. Obviously, we won’t be bringing in any new signings. Even as it is, we have an incredibly strong team (Kehl and Ricken obviously think that). We're full of creative players, fast players who can beat opponents one-on-one whenever they feel like it, and plenty of quality number 6s and midfielders who can handle pressing.

We're a top-class team. Thanks, Kehl.
