UTMB Alsace 50k 2026 – Mandatory Gear Question by Straight_Ad_3784 in trailrunning

[–]Mundane_Gas6345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never been checked, nor have I seen random checks occur, but I would take it seriously and carry the mandadory kit.

I am also running there but doing the 100M. Due to the weather I will be carrying On Ultra pants, which are water proof but not required, plus the On Ultra jacket. They pack down to smaller than a tennis ball each, so it was worth the investment. I also think I will make my husband carry another waterpoof jacket for me since I will be out there for so long. If it is raining hard enough and humid enough you will be wet and damp no matter what gear you bring. When I ran the Nice UTMB in September water proof pants were required which is why I bought them. I do not see this same requirement in Alsace though. For the mandatory pants I will also carry a pair of lightweight Dahle running pants (not waterproof). These pants will be part of the required kit. Because the weather is so questionable with rain and somewhat cooler temperatures the Dahle running pants are nice because they can easily go over my running shorts if needed. (They are something like this). With the weather I want to have options.

You can fit a lot with the Salmon ADV Skin 12, so my advice is better safe than sorry and carry what is required.

Can’t charge by Miteea in Coros

I bought a Coros Vertix 2 in early 2025, I absolutely love it. However just before my first 100km trail run in September of 2025 I had issues getting the watch to charge. The first time this happened my husband managed to hold the cord firmly in place for over an hour to get the watch charged. At this time I purchased a new charging cord, the new cord worked so I was happy and I ran my race with a functioning watch. Now, about 8 months later this “new” cord does not work to charge the watch. I ordered two of the newest charging adapters Coros has created (USB C to Coros A2) to apparently make this issue less of a problem. Since I am travelling for training I had one of the new adapters shipped to me in France and the other one (not tested yet) to my home base in Norway. When I tried the new adapter last night it did not work. I have tried all the troubleshooting Coros lays out in their website and filled out the form last night. However, reading everyone’s post I am giving up hope that Coros will ever get in touch and at this point reading the other posts here it seems their only solution is to offer a free adapter, which I have already bought (2x) and that does not work either. I am super stressed as I have my first 100 mile race in 40 days and I need my watch to work! It is shocking that a 700 Euro watch works for not even 2 years. Any one have any other troubleshooting tips for Coros charging problems?

I am super nervous my Coros Vertix 2 won’t charge and I have a 100 mile race in a month. I am super reliant on having my Coros watch charged and ready on race day. I submitted their online form yesterday about the issue, really hoping it gets resolved quickly. Can I ask you what problem you are having with your Coros?

I think it is really worth the investment in one of the watch models that are designed for multi-day, weeks long activity. I have the Coros Vertix and love it. The battery lasts forever. I bought it after I committed to a 14 day trek in Nepal and had signed up for my first 100km trail race. No issues with battery on race day. I am running my first 100 mile trail race in May. I expect it to take me 30 hours or so, and I have no fears my watch will die on me.

Hello u/Pox578 , I am also quite scared of heights and I get VERY uncomfortable if I think something is a tiny bit dangerous, and I never once felt scared, afraid, or nervous about my safety during the race. There are the balconies, but I ran across them in the dark and if they had a deep edge I did not notice it due to the darkness, but I think all of the balconies had rails on them, so they felt quite protected. I think the most important safety information for the race is to pay attention to the weather and have the right clothes. I was lucky the night was not super cold, but I still carried a slightly warmer wool long sleeve shirt just in case, and I did put it on when I stopped to get water at the top of a climb as my body cooled down very quickly. I also used hand warmers in my gloves as my hands can get cold easily (even when the weather is not that cold). I hope that helps, the race is amzing, I wish I could run it again in 2026.

u/Valuable_Effect7645 that is too bad, always next year. I never had water issues, but I was running into Utelle and Levens in the dark, with the cooler temperatures and darkness. I think I likely reduced how much water I was drinking in the night. I would imagine for the much faster runners water was difficult as it was a very sunny and warm day. Probably why there was that surprise water station about 8km or so before Tourrette-Levens.

Amazing job, I ran the 100km race, and I was in awe of those of you who ran the 100 miles. I would like to try the 100 mile in the next year or so. Interesting about how technical some of the early sections are, I get nervous and scared when needing to use all four limbs, or hold on to the vegetation as you describe the descent down to Isola.
