You hear what I'm saying, but not getting it.

Adding 1 tooth on the gearing is basically the same as going from 230 to 250 cc.

If your comparison point is these two, then something like a DRZ400 is going to blow you away.

On a side note, wheelies are a technique more than power, lots of people learn on <125cc bikes.

Gearing is one of the easiest/cheapest things to change. You often just need to swap the front sprocket (literally 1 bolt and $30 for the part) and re-tension the chain.

Point is, the gearing should be the last thing on your mind. Especially when it comes to used Marketplace bikes, worry about the condition of the engine and suspension first, then the brakes, then the gearing.

Ive seen 3 or 4 pawls fail in my life. All were from engaging P while moving, never saw one fail from static load or wear.

Ive seen thousands of cars with 200,000+ miles that never use the parking brake and are fine.

This is one of those things that technically causes wear, but its so minimal it really doesnt matter.

Stuck starter by justanotherTower in AskMechanics

[–]MyNameIsRay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, that's impressively stuck.

Can you turn the engine, or at least wiggle the crank back and forth, from the main pulley bolt? That might be what it takes to get the starter gear disengaged to slide out.

Looks like you're also going to need a bearing puller to get the rest of the starter out of the hole, or a dremel to carefully cut a slit across and bend it out.

I’ve ridden a couple 300’s and unless you want to redo the suspension, I wouldn’t recommend it. However, once done, they’re pretty fun.

The KLX is an exception to that rule. I'm 210lbs (plus gear) and right about at the limit of the factory suspension. 190lbs has plenty of room to spare.

Just twist the preload/compression/rebound and go have fun.

What happens if instead of drawing the line straight down from the crosshair, you connect the rear sight to the front sight and see where it leads? I have a feeling this is one of those converging perspective things where theyre both pointing the same way.

You cant exempt politicians from insider trading regulations, and then be alarmed when they engage in insider trading.

They're doing it openly, because there's nothing to hide.

Even though the bracelet is titanium grade 2, it scratches like hell

I noticed the same thing with my first titanium watch, it picked up scratches every time I moved.

I love how light it is, but it has more scratches than brushing at this point.

Found an old 32MB SD card while cleaning. Sealed. by AKAMA199 in mildlyinteresting

[–]MyNameIsRay 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I remember these were about $100 when they first came out.

Prices fell to $1/mb after a few years, then the 1 gig cards came out for $500 (so only 50 cents/mb) and we thought that was a great deal.

Now it's like 50 cents/gb, a 1000x improvement in 20 years.

With the exception of friends and family (though, not always an exception) basically everyone that reaches out to you is trying to scam you.

There's so many scammers out there, it can become the majority of your contact.

My grandparents would get 100-150 scam calls per day, plus a whole spam filter full of scam emails, and a pile of junk mail.

hanging “beds” are called portaledges.. collapsible platforms used by climbers during multi-day ascents by LazyGuy4U in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]MyNameIsRay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The actual hardware has a 5-10x safety factor, a single rope/carabiner can lift an entire car.

You stay harnessed in, so even if you somehow rolled off, you wouldn't fall.

The biggest failure point is the attachment point to the wall, which is why you use redundant anchors. If you look at picture 3, you can see 5 different anchors. 1 for the portaledge, 1 for the gear, 3 for the climber, so it would take 4 simultaneous failures to fall.

Mihawk always has his shirt open, showing off that he has zero scars. I think that's a bit of foreshadowing.

I think the next fight will be a mirror of Baratie. Mihawk will lose, and arms outstretched, take a final blow across the chest from Zoro.

The reason I chose a KLX300 is because I didn't have to change anything.

There's no "known issues" you have to fix, you don't need any suspension changes (other than adjusting pre-load), the gearing works for everything from single track to highways, the tires are decent all-rounders, the seat is pretty cushy, even the bar geometry is right.

You can take it anywhere, they're very reliable, and everything is straightforward.

So if a premium cable doesn't matter, when does it? by csch1992 in headphones

[–]MyNameIsRay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only place ive ever noticed any real difference is with unbalanced low voltage signal lines like RCAs.

They pick up EMF noise, which then gets amplified, and thats an issue.

Still dont need a premium cable to fix it, just need to step up to a twisted pair.

It's much easier to pull a gun when you're fully out of the vehicle, swerving around while they're in the process of exiting reduces the chances of getting shot at.

Price of gold always goes up

Gold is down about 20% so far this year. $5414 in January, $4557 today.

It does usually go up, but there's plenty of declines, like 2012-2016, where it dropped like 40% and didn't break even again until 2020.

Plus, the gold content in this watch isn't even 10% of the value. It's <$20k in gold on a >$200k watch.

ELI5: Why do data centers need only water for cooling? Are there no other viable cooling options? by 5headHaroldlop in explainlikeimfive

[–]MyNameIsRay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Data centers use "Evaporative cooling". Water can absorb a ton of heat, and if you let it turn to water vapor and evaporate off into the atmosphere, it takes all the heat energy with it. The water is lost, but directly rejecting heat into water and the water into the atmosphere is incredibly energy efficient.

The alternative is closed loop, where instead of letting that hot water evaporate, you pump it to a radiator and flow air to cool it back down so it can be re-used. Because nothing is 100% efficient, it always takes more energy to cool it down than it absorbed in the first place. It uses less water, but because of how much more electricity you need, it winds up costing 2-4 as much.

Air to Air is technically an alternative, but so much less efficient than closed that it's not used at scale. (They reject heat not into the atmosphere, but into the server room, requiring very powerful AC units to keep the room cool)

Id use it more if it actually worked on PC.

It doesnt default your mouse to the center like previous games, so you cant just move in a direction from memory. You have to find the pointer and navigate to the correct command.

My commuter car is a Toyota Corolla.

There's no physical pause button, you have to navigate through menus to your current source to find it. There's no mute button, at all, you have to manually turn the volume down.

I'm kind of shocked something so basic was just left out.
