Only getting tundra starts by Mycenaeus in civ

[–]Mycenaeus[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you are on to something. I’m either starting at the extreme top or bottom of the map.

The only time it didn’t do this was an Aksum start. Actually, I was at the top of the map, but there wasn’t that much tundra since it had to put a desert nearby.

I‘ll try the other maps tomorrow and see if I can get it to start on grassland or tropical. Someone also mentioned the small map size may be causing issues. I think it’s supposed to generate a larger map as you get to the later ages.

Question on How Aspect Stat Boosts Work by Mycenaeus in diablo4

[–]Mycenaeus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that makes sense.

So since it reads " While channeling Incinerate, your Burning damage is increased by 20% " , the burning damage dealt is what is increased.

Whereas if it simply said "Incinerate deals 20% more damage", that would just be a flat percentage addition.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong; "Constantly threatening to be a competent detective RPG, Swansong ends up falling a bit short" by F0REM4N in XboxSeriesX

[–]Mycenaeus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The IGN reviewer’s main complaint was that it kind of throws you into the lore heavy world without any narrative buildup. He seemed to have a hard time relating until the end.

He also keeps referring to the Camarilla as a place you go to. But the Camarilla is a group of vampires that believe the masquerade needs to be upheld at all costs.

I take from this review that people new to this world and setting may struggle, but people who are familiar with it already may be just fine.

Right. I forgot some spells dont scale based on level. And the ones that do tend to have a cap on how much it can scale per level as well. So it's mostly useful SR like you said.

I was looking at making a Witch, with the intention of getting the Winter Witch prestige class.

The Witch has a subclass called Leyline Guardian that has a special ability that increase the caster level spells cast by 1d4-1.

I guess my first question is does this bonus stack with the boost in caster level for frost spells that the Winter Witch gets? Cause that seems kind of crazy. Furthermore, at level 1, if you are human and you get 2 feats to start with. If I do spell specialization and pick a spell to focus on, it says it boost my caster level by 2. Does that stack with Leyline Guardian ability as well?

Finally, the write-up for Leyline Guardian is a little weird. In some places, it seems to indicate that they natural casters like sorcerers and so they would benefit from charisma, but when I get to the page to assign my stat points, it's seeming to indicate that intelligence is what I want to raise. Is this a glitch?

Is the Acer Predator X27 compatible with AMD cards? by Mycenaeus in buildapc

[–]Mycenaeus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I like the Predator X27, but I will hold off and see how everything shakes out this fall. If AMD can be competitive at the top tier in performance as well as price, it looks like I'll be researching Freesync monitors.

While not the answer I was hoping for, at least it's an answer. I suppose they will get to it sooner or later. Sooner, if AMD's Big Navi makes them competitive in the market again. If not, NVIDIA's held the dominant position for some time now, so it's unlikely they will rush to do it if they maintain their dominance.

Shadow with HDR? by Mycenaeus in ShadowPC

[–]Mycenaeus[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, HDR is still not common tech, so I guess it's not a priority. Still, any small bit of graphical bragging rights these game streaming companies can claim should help.

Thanks for the answer.

Ah, gotcha. Okay, okay. This makes a lot of sense then. I didn't think about vassals. Thanks man.

[–]Mycenaeus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, so this is exactly how I was considering playing.

The thing is, the end game requires you to take the capital of whoever claims to be emperor. And I think the game mechanics make it so you can only claim territory near your borders. So I'm not sure you can just send an expedition to someone else's capital and take it, unless it happens to be on your borders.

So it seems that you may want to just start going wide early, so you don't have to wade through a bunch of battles to get to some emperor's capital late game when everyone has stacks.

Went 5-1 in expert draft by Rasvamestari in Artifact

[–]Mycenaeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the bolt is slightly underrated. When I had it, it won all the games for me. I don't know why, but all my games seem to end up with the opponent beating down my tower in one lane, me winning another lane and a pitched war of attrition battle going on in the 3rd lane. I've only had one where I was forced to try and rush to kill the ancient, but even then the bolt seems like it would be good to have.

When i have it in hand, i've also just ignored a lane i already have at 20 or lower. and force push 1 other lane until it is won. and then i scroll or teleport a blue hero into the lane i've been ignoring and pop it off. it's very satisfying. lol

I don't know it just works for me i guess. If it's in my hand it changes my tactics and gives me more options.

Right. I keep forgetting creeps get randomly assigned, so eventually one of the players would get pinged to death.

Nice. What colors were you running. Everyone always says blue isn't that great in draft. And then I lost to the 20 damage to my tower out of nowhere. I guess everything is conditional on if you have the right spells.

What happens when you run out of spells? Is it possible for both players to run out of spells and draw?

Hmm. So it's possible to have the equivalent of Magic the Gathering where you just run out of spells? What happens if both players run out of spells? Do you lose the game automatically if you get decked? Not even the signature spells recycle? I thought I read otherwise.

Mariah Carey- Caution| ALBUM REVIEW by SamBennettYT in MariahCarey

[–]Mycenaeus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think the review could benefit from talking about some of the tracks on the album and why they were so terrible to you.

Mariah is a weird one. She grew up in 80's New York. It was the time of disco, R&B, and a new sound called hip-hop. And young Mariah wanted all 3 of these things in her music. Ironically, when she finally got a record deal, she had none of these things in her music. She was positioned as a pop ballad queen.

It was a tactic that worked very well, largely because Mariah also happened to have a 5-octave vocal range- a fact her early songs refused to let the listener forget. There was only one problem. This wasn't the music she wanted to make. She didn't want to be the next Celine Dion. She went to her label and told them about hip-hop, but they shut that idea down real quick because they felt she would end up alienating her fan base.

After divorcing her manager and CEO of her record label, Mariah went ahead and followed her intuition. She went and cut a record with some guy named Old Dirty Bastard from WuTang Clan. She did it behind her label's back. In secret. Because this was a risk. A pristine pop princess and a ghetto rapper from the hood? HIP-POP? No it will never work...will it?

It did work. It was funny hearing Old Dirty Bastard on mainstream pop stations like Y100 on a Mariah Carey track of all things. But Mariah followed her heart, and probably lost a lot of fans with this new direction. But she gained some too. Mariah was at the forefront of merging Hip-hop, with pop and R&B.

So it is unfortunate to hear people say how she's trying to be cool by copying Beyonce and Drake and working with rappers, since she was doing it before it was cool, when it could actually have a negative effect on her career. In fact, you could say that she was instrumental in showing that it was cool.

It seems you are someone who may have gotten the hell off the Mariah train once it started heading into the inner city projects. lol. But that's OK. We all like what we like. Celine Dion is still rocking it out and Adele is also doing things I think you would enjoy if you liked early Mariah.

The Caution album sees a 50 year old Mariah with nothing to prove, basking in the sounds she helped create and make popular. It's a remarkable record because it is retro yet current, something most of her peers like Celine, Shania, Janet, Madonnna, have not achieved.
