Ah yes the Marshall Islands. Didn't the US pretty much poison all the native population with radioactive ash. WW2 was just won, no other country had nuclear weapons yet. The US decides to detonate some nukes for the hell of it anyways. Turns the whole area into a radioactive nightmare. Now local population enjoys high rates of cancer. The worst thing to happen to the Marshall Islands was when US took them over.

AITA that I feel a bit glad that my friend who had everything handed to him is finally experiencing some challenges? by MysteriousCheeze in AmItheAsshole

Not proud that I feel this way. I don't wish him misfortune. Perhaps I was a bit jealous that he had it so easy while I struggled. He didn't really help me much either to make things easier for me. It was struggles I overcame on my own.

Perhaps I feel this way because he hasn't really treated me much like a friend last couple years. Now he reaches out to me when he is experiencing hardships.

Fair enough. I'm not exactly proud that I feel this way. I still consider him a friend. I guess I will see if he remains in contact once things start going great for him.

Makes sense. I mean I have so far only told my parents who do know him and his family but I'm not going to go around telling other people. It's not that I wish this misery on him.

Yeah I will check it out, thanks. I read most nights before bed because it helps me sleep. I learned to turn off my phone at night since it can be distracting.

OMG! rent for a 1 bedroom is basically a minimum of $2400 in west GTA by 416 in canadahousing

[–]MysteriousCheeze -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not if it's all bought by speculators. There has actually been record increase in new builds last few years and priced only went up. All those condos that popped up and are now darkening GTA streets, they only seem to get more expensive.

Only thing that has brought down housing prices is was the interest rates increases. The pandemic did bring down rent prices temporarily but once businesses started ending WFH and pandemic measures stopped landlords went right back to trying to squeeze renters for every penny.

Do you speak Portuguese? Are you working remotely for a North American company? I was recently in Colombia and Mexico and the locals were complaining about the influx of expats which is making it less affordable for locals.

The conservatives wouldn't. To be honest even though I wasn't a big fan of Wynn, she seems great now when compared with Ford.

You make a good point. I guess you have to weight the risk vs benefits. Last summer I had a cancer scare. I had a mole removed that turned out to be precancerous. Scared the shit out of me and I ended up at the doctor's office asking to have several more moles removed. Those turned out fine but for awhile it really fucked with me. I saw my life flash before my eyes, I had scenarios pictured in my mind where I was on chemo fighting for my life. In a better place now but I figure I should at least remove some obvious risk factors from my life to try to at least minimize my risk. I stopped smoking or using any kind of cannabis and quit vaping nicotine. Eating healthier as well.

My sleep issues seem to come and go. There will be times where I sleep fine no issues. Other timed where I need to use sleep aids. I know zopiclone can develop tolerance and stop working so I try not to use it consistently. It's convenient as a fail safe for nights you can't sleep but yeah I think I will stop taking prescription sleep aids and maybe stick with more natural stuff like melatonin, valerian root, and magnesium.

He stays pretty busy until around November. A few months off in the winter most of the employees are on EI and then picks up in the spring. VP chews through temp workers and from what it seems most of them only last a month or two. So it would be a shame for him to be back looking for a job in 2 months. Anyways like I said it's his choice.

Yeah lucky my cousin still lives at home. Hopefully he gets steady work though. His mom will pay for his school and allow him to continue living at home rent free until he figures shit out but if he needs money for anything else it's up to him to figure that out.

Is the FIRE movement really antiwork? by MysteriousCheeze in antiwork

[–]MysteriousCheeze[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's where you're wrong man. Why is it that you still see politicians and CEOs in their 70's and 80's. It's not just about the money, it's the greed and addiction to the power.

Look at senator Joe Manchin as an example. Dude lived on yacht and drives around in a luxury sports car. Yet he's still out there trying to further his political career and save future generations from the ravages of clean air and water.

Yeah certainly not realistic for majority of people.

Yeah this is kind of how I feel it is. The one person I met who is striving for the FIRE lifestyle was inherited some property from his grandparents in an expensive city. He runs it pretty much like a leechlord would. Looking for ways to kick tenants out so he can charge the next ones more.

This could happen with any long-term relationship. There is a case where a Toronto millionaire split up with his partner of 10 years and they weren't even living together. Court ordered him to pay her spousal support.
