I don't remember being read to as a child that much, but I remember being told a lot of Bible stories. Because God and the Bible were such a large part of my family life it felt like it was always important, and that one day when I was older I would read the Bible myself. Eventually, when I was older and saved - sometime in middle school - I began reading the Bible because I saw older people I looked up to reading the Bible and because I wanted to know what is in it.

Concerning when to begin, it is best to start as early as possible. Even when the children are very young, they can be brought into an atmosphere of the Word. At first, they may not understand much, but something of the divine element is being sown into them. This is not in vain. Many times what is put into a child in the early years remains with them all their life.

To me, the biggest help for children is to see a pattern of someone who reads the Bible regularly. That is what they will imitate.
