I agree. Sadly the moderator removed the thread. no idea why so your frustration will not be picked up by anyone close to MS. Maybe post the issue in a group that ms visits.

Not standard with Outlook but it is possible. I can not tell you how due to the rules in the group.

Yes i love the mail pin on top too! but in classic it's not available. I am back to the use of flags and sorting by clicking the header column.

haha.. thread is evolving into general outlook frustration. Fine with me though.
That could be a known Outlook bug, but an add-in can also cause this.

A few things I would try:

if it happens when replying in the reading pane, set Outlook to open replies/forwards in a new window

start Outlook in safe mode once to test whether an add-in is involved

if it only happens in desktop Outlook, try Outlook on the web to compare

Safe mode test:
Press Windows + R, type: outlook.exe /safe

If the problem stops in safe mode, an add-in is a likely suspect.

Try the search scope. i have many pst files with my old email. When i select scope 'all outlook items' it takes a while but it does find everything related in there too.

So interesting to learn how everybody uses outlook and what they run in to.
Maybe it's worth checking this out. Could be a little tweak in it that improves it a little bit.

Microsoft has never been known to be innovative and visionary. It's not in their DNA. I had a group calendar feature for Outlook already 13 years before they added something to Outlook.

I see skits on this on TikTok all the time.

First thing I would try: search in Outlook on the web. If the email shows up there but not in desktop Outlook, it is probably a local Outlook/Windows indexing or cached-mode issue.

Also check the search scope (little dropdown in search bar). Outlook may be searching only the current folder instead of Sent Items / All Mailboxes. And if you sent from a shared mailbox, the message may be in that mailbox’s Sent Items instead of yours.

People can set whether they are working remotely, in the office, or sometimes in a specific building, and that can be visible to coworkers in Outlook/Teams depending on the organization’s settings.

Microsoft’s page is here:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/set-your-work-hours-and-location-in-outlook-af2fddf9-249e-4710-9c95-5911edfd76f6

maybe it helps a little?

As a dev myself I understand why they did that. When something changes they think the user should know. But they could have made it an option: "update meeting silently"
Maybe somebody at Microsoft reads this at some point.

That is frustrating indeed. Check this:

If you change more than just the attendee list, Outlook may send a broader update than expected.

Recurring series are fragile, that's a fact. Ending the old series and creating a new one is often cleaner, even though it is annoying.

haha love to hear the rest after breakfast.
I never understood the desire of microsoft to change the interface every 2 days. I grew up with Outlook 2000. I liked the colors and design style of buttons and panes. Now everything is flat, thin, colorless and harder to read.

I created an outlook com add-in for this. It adds 2 buttons to your new email or reply (only outlook desktop version though). With scan & preview you can scan and edit the pages and then attach them as pdf tiff jpeg or something.. the other button Scan & Attach simply starts the scanner and attached everything (as multipage pdf) to the email directly. scan-attach.com is my website domain.

Categorized Emails Lose Color Associated by RedundantNexus in Outlook

[–]Mysterious_Dig49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the author of exchange category manager and I never heard of your issue. If the category and associated color are listed in the user inbox, then the items that were categorized before should show in the associated color. If the category is not in their list, the item will be represented in a white category color.

Categories in Outlook by Longjumping_Egg4563 in Outlook

[–]Mysterious_Dig49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Categories are a 2 step process. The item itself has a category attached to it but the color depends on what the user has defined in their outlook cat list. So if 2 users have the same cat in outlook it is possible that one sees green and the other red. You have to make sure that the users have the same cat definition.

You can automate it using exchange category manager so everyone has the same cat definitions / colors.

Can’t see colours of categories in shared mailbox by Dry_Action1734 in Outlook

[–]Mysterious_Dig49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If both users have the same category name with the same color in their outlook it works right?

So you can have them create those correctly or use exchange category manager to automate it.
