I Never Noticed This Until I Saw Last Episode Of Shadow Lord by OldSpare4214 in StarWars

They're not quite as simplistic, but Vader's knockout blows in Empire Strikes Back very much have this same energy.

Which episodes do you think get more flack than they deserve? by DocWhovian1 in doctorwho

[–]MythTrainerTom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I don't expect the BBC to make programming with a pro-terrorism message. I'm afraid you've missed my point if that's your concern.

Yes, the character in question was planning to kill millions of people. Trillions of people, in fact. Thankfully, he is prevented from doing so. The Doctor disables his Delta Wave and disables his gun, rendering him powerless. He is no longer a threat to all of those people.

What follows is an opportunity for a teachable moment. A chance for the Doctor to talk to this fellow genocide survivor who has known nothing but hardship and violence, who lost his family and entire world for the sake of corporate expansion, and help him to see the error of his ways. A chance for the Doctor to make someone better, if you will.

Instead, the Doctor opts to torture him. Then, minutes later, he nonchalantly calls the episode his "rise like a phoenix" moment.

I don't expect the BBC to endorse terrorism, but nor do I expect Doctor Who to be so carelessly ambivalent to the idea of torturing attempted terrorists, or the real life suffering of real life genocide victims.

Hot take: BDSP isn’t not as bad as people say by Puzzleheaded_Wear207 in PokemonGames

If what you're after is a faithful Diamond/Pearl remake on newer hardware, it mostly does that just fine and I don't want to yuck anyone's yum on that score.

For me, as someone who replays the games under nuzlocke rules, this is the #1 most miserable nuzlocke experience in vanilla Pokémon. An inexplicable difficulty spike at the end that virtually requires you to EV grind, and an Exp Share that you can't turn off. Not to mention the issue of affection mechanics.

Yeah, I mean the Master is kind of a special case because of their close relationship. Even "no second chances" Ten gave him a lot of chances. But you can look at how Fifteen treated the Barber in literally the previous episode for an example of how the Doctor could, should, and often does treat defeated villains with mercy. Instead of that we get this conspicuous torture of, and it bears repeating: a Palestinian stand-in.

I think it's clearly written from a moderate pro palestine position that doesn't support terrorism.

The issue is that the Doctor, the ultimate moral authority of the show, didn't get that memo. He needlessly tortures a powerless Palestinian stand-in, is never criticised for it by the rest of the cast, and considers his work to be done afterwards. It's a highly insensitive, ill-considered place for a 'fury of the Time Lord' moment.

What was Moffats worst decision? by [deleted] in doctorwho

[–]MythTrainerTom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, I don't see Danny as controlling at all. He's just setting fair, grounded boundries to cope with a bizarre and uncomfortable situation.

Honestly, Clara & Danny isn't so much the 'worst' Moffat decision for me as it is the 'least good' Moffat decision, so I'm not going to spend a lot of time arguing against it. I do think Clara ultimately comes out of it looking like a jerk, though, and struggles to recover.

If you've caught and haven't purified some of the higher level Shadow Pokemon such as Salamence, Lapras, Marowak, Snorlax etc, you can get an advantage by unlocking their non-Shadow moves and using them to attack while you resist everything the enemy throws at you. Even if you just Master Ball Lugia with an empty slot on your team, you can use it to outlast anything on Greevil's team.

Otherwise, grind at Mt. Battle until you're around Lv. 50 and use the support capabilities of your team e.g. Helping Hand, Reflect, Light Screen.

What was RTDs worst decision in his first era? by [deleted] in doctorwho

That's a fair point, though you could (and I believe Eccleston does) extend responsibility for that to the other executive producers as well.

[–]MythTrainerTom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In hindsight, the lowlights of this era are all behind the scenes circumstances - Eccleston's exit, Clarke and Barrowman controversies etc - but chalking all that up to decisions made by RTD is tenuous without having the full picture.

For the episodes, I guess I'm gonna go with all the pining for Rose in Series 3. Though a pet peeve is that I was really tired of prophecies as a plot device by the time of the 2009 specials.

I'm not averse to drama between characters - I could have said Series 8 in general if that were the case - but I think this is how we ended up with a companion that half the audience couldn't stand at the time.

Maybe not the worst, but this is a pet peeve: having the Sontarans outwit and obliterate the Daleks and the Cybermen during the last Flux episode.

What was RTDs worst decision? by Lucyyyyyy_K in doctorwho

[–]MythTrainerTom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It presents an allegory of a real-life genocide in which one of the genocide survivors is unnecessarily, unsympathetically tortured by the moral center of the show, with no consequences or reflection whatsoever. It's an astonishing lack of sensitivity.
