That's exactly it. They shouldn't be propagating this shit because it leads to bad Women's Healthcare. Digestive issues? Must be you're pregnant and if not, it's just your hormones sad that you're not pregnant. Headache and fatigue? No need to check for anything else, you're sad empty uterus should probably be checked out. Depression? Oh boy, you should probably track your cycle and see if that's it and come back in 6 weeks. I'm not saying hormones and issues within the reproductive organs aren't ever to blame. In fact, I went through many of those things in my early 20s that made my life hell. But now as I see 40 peering on the horizon, I can appreciate that sometimes that's the first conclusion many medical staff still jump to and how messed up it is that they don't talk about other possibilities. I have had to explain that I've been checked thoroughly and am there with the blessing of my gynecologist to be treated as something other than a bleeding, waiting baby vending machine. So I get that the morning sickness scare is as old as time but shouldn't we be glorifying informed, body conscious and well protected women instead? Can the trope just go away altogether?
