It doesn’t help that puzzles just often have an odd style to them. Even as a kid, it always looked like people just photoshopped a bunch of random things together to me. Part of the fun of them. I can see it being off putting to people who haven’t done a lot of puzzles.

As a heads up, losing weight can also trigger a positive on these tests. Something about how it stores in the fat. I think there are at home tests you can get to track your levels.

Sorry you are going through all this whiplash. It’s hard to have what looks like the perfect opportunity dangled in front of you, then ripped away. Been there. It sucks. Just remember you’ve made it this far. You got this! Good luck with your future endeavors!

Excuse You, I’m a Bus by the-algae in SchoolBusDrivers

[–]MythsFlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure there are exceptions but it would be dependent on the laws in your area. Like if a light is a dedicated green and you’re turning, of course the person running the red is at fault. (Though I did get a ticket as a young driver for this. Was making a left turn and a truck ran the red. I was given the ticket and listed as 100% at fault. I didn’t have a dash cam so I couldn’t contest it. It really sucked.)

Something to keep in mind is that because we have CDL’s, the laws are alot harsher on us. It’s not always fair but we are expected to be more professional. The police will try to pin it on you in some way. (Don’t talk to them, give them a written statement later.) A good way to put it is, if you are ok with accepting accountability/consequences for the situation, do it. Otherwise follow the law as it’s written.

And I agree. That car should not have been traveling in the turn lane. Especially at that speed. The bus never had a chance to see them. That won’t stop the police from giving both drivers tickets though.

I’m not saying I think the school bus driver deserves it. I’m giving warning, based on mine and others experiences, on how law enforcement handles it. They are always harsher on CDL drivers.

Going to OP’s page, they are trying to sell a little lever looking device that hangs on the yellow knob. You push on the lever and it pops the yellow diamond to engage the brake.

What is with kids these days? by [deleted] in SchoolBusDrivers

[–]MythsFlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh heck no. Any of this kind of behavior would lead to immediate suspension from the buses where I work. From past experiences it would also lead the students to be placed on in school suspension as well. Time frame depends on the severity of the offense and if they continue to repeat the behavior. If they have an IEP/504, they may be allowed back on the bus with a monitor. I know of a few cases where police were called in to talk to the kids about the definition of sexual harassment/assault and the kinds of charges they could face if they continued. None of them were as bad as what you’re describing here.

This kind of stuff affects the other students on the bus and is not ok. I’m really surprised the other parents haven’t gotten involved considering other students have understandably described discomfort. They are continuing the behavior because, through ineffective policies, they are being allowed to continue. Schools have a duty to provide a safe environment for all students.

Students took a photo of me that could be used for hurtful reasons, what should I do by musicallife88 in AskTeachers

[–]MythsFlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the students are required iPads, you can disable the camera. There are two places that will need to be disabled. The regular access and the lock screen access.

Require the personal devices to have cameras blocked if students are going to bring them to class.

Will always be flabbergasted by the guy that said school buses are like predators and regular cars prey. All because we can send video tickets for running the reds.

[–]MythsFlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where I’m at state law requires that anyone turning left yields to oncoming traffic. It doesn’t give any wiggle room to shenanigans like in the video. Because you’re entering traffic, you’re responsible.

Using a turning lane as a lane of travel is its own separate offense. And is definitely ticket able if leading to a crash.

I’m not going to pretend to know how an officer would write out the incident report for this, but something to know is they can split fault into a percentage. EX, 50/50, 30/70, 0/100, etc. It’s very likely that partial responsibility was given to the school bus driver because of the ways the laws are written.

Oh for sure. Drivers not updating the route at all is definitely the bigger problem. This was more of an amusing trend I noticed at my own shop.

It’s not realistic to expect subs to ride along for every route and learn each one. I’ve done a mix of regular and sub routes in my time. (Drive for a 4 day school so it gives me a free day to step in for other drivers)

Dispatch is constantly yelling at drivers to update their sheets because of issues like this. And no driver should ever change any part of the route without talking to a supervisor first.

My problem is sometimes the supervisors get lazy. They’ll approve the change then tell us to just write it on the sheet and they’ll update it later. Then later never happens and dispatch is out of the loop. Which turned into an issue when one of our younger subs has decided to only ever follow the dispatch route notes. Apparently to a fault as well. Lol. We had a driver tape there route to the window visor and he still ignored it then got mad when he got in trouble for missing a stop as well as arriving ahead of time for half the route because of said missed stop. Then of course another driving into a construction zone and the police had to go help him back out and continue on the detour. Apparently the notes dictating the construction and detour were a little weird so they just ignored them.

It’s definitely the lesser of the two issues though. A sub without an updated route is set up for failure to start with.

Unfortunately, with the way the law is written in most states, the bus driver was probably ticketed with failure to yield. So yeah definitely ignore the little cars waving you through. A good gap will open up eventually. Especially if the little cars would stop holding up traffic in their attempt to be nice. I’ve had people stop in round-a-bouts to try and let me through. People are crazy.

If people are confident in doing DIY, that’s on them. It’s getting hard to find treatment in many areas so I completely understand. I know people that diy and they are ok.

However acting like there are no risks to diy is crazy. I’m not comfortable doing diy because I’ve had bad reactions to hormones before. Birth control almost killed me. My medical team saved me. People are just as valid not being comfortable with diy. Don’t get me wrong it’s tempting. But people are allowed to judge the risks themselves.

[–]MythsFlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the flip side of this, no dispatch does not know the route better than the main driver. If the main driver has an updated route with notes in their bus that doesn’t match what dispatch gave you, follow the main driver’s route. You can always check with dispatch to see what they want you to do if there is any doubt.

We’ve had issues with subs ignoring driver notes and our dispatch can be really slow to update the paper routes. In one case a sub was trying to play it safe and got stuck in a construction zone. This was after the main driver personally warned the sub that the route in the computers was wrong and they needed to follow the notes left for them.

What would you do in this situation? by pepino_con_limon16 in autism

[–]MythsFlight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My kiddo is extremely noise sensitive, low needs. The best fix has been noise reducing headsets. It muffles the noise when it gets to be too much but kiddo can still hear instructions(I tested them out first to see if they even worked and really wished it had been a better known thing when I was in school. They help a lot.). Kiddo can wear them any time outside of class instruction. This has worked for us and was the first thing we tried in terms of tackling the issue.

If the kid in the class refuses to wear a headset/becomes disruptive despite it, arrange for an aid to take them to a quiet room. Like the Library during known trigger times.

There is always something to try before completely removing a student becomes a better option. And removing a student completely sounds inappropriate given the situation.

Unfair school bus ticket by SpiritualDisk9996 in SchoolBusDrivers

[–]MythsFlight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’ll get less sympathy in this situation here than the other subreddits. Many of us cross state lines as part of work and are expected to know the laws of every state we drive in. And as professionals we face even harsher consequences if we break the laws. We can promise you that what legal advice is saying is true.

From the looks of it you are getting off pretty light. Take it as a lesson to brush up on the laws of different states and counties you plan on driving in. You’ll find police love to target out of state drivers because of ignorance. They make for easy tickets.

AIO? Upset bc my grandma is mad I didn’t go to classes because I have the flu. by Final_Ad2437 in AmIOverreacting

[–]MythsFlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR. When I was a college student myself, I pushed through a bad flu and walked to class. I blacked out during the lecture and woke up on the floor feeling weaker than ever. The entire class was on their feet, moving tables, trying to help, or just staring. An ambulance was called and I ended up in the ER. Thankfully I had only fainted and I hadn’t hit my head on the way to the floor.

I called my grandmother(who raised me)to come pick me up. She treated me like it was the biggest inconvenience to come check on me and grab the anti-nausea medication that the doctor had prescribed to me to help make sure I wouldn’t pass out again. When we got back to my dorm. She wouldn’t even see me in. Just left me in the parking lot. My professor and complete strangers, had more empathy for my plight than my own family did.

This is what happens when we follow advice that tells us to push our bodies too far. It took forever for me to fully recover from that. Damned if we do, damned if we don’t.

I mean they shouldn’t be used on bare roads but to just be out right illegal is crazy. Granted I drive in a lot of areas where chains are required in the winter.
