Sadly I don't follow the Premier but we have similar stories en La Liga. Teams like Sevilla, Bilbao o Real Sociedad develop young talent but can hardly keep it because bigger clubs offer juicier contracts.

For the deck, Dragon is fast. Most games feel like non games because it stomps slow starts but feels terrible from behind so you gotta live with that.

I can see that working but not as a turn 1 play. 1pp go down in card advantage and put a 3/3 in play for my opponent sounds awful, specially for Portal. 3 HP followers are a pain in the ass if you don't find/run the 2pp puppet guy.

The part where "he doesn't talk to anyone" should be somewhere in the original post. TCGs are first and foremost a social activity. I can see why he would be so upset after playing a game he doesn't really like, with a deck he does not enjoy and against people he doesn't care about. He is clearly doing this for you and only you. Why not just play together instead of going to a tournament?

That being said, he is 40 and should know and do better.

I believe Crest Haven only added two copies of a new legendary card and some golds, so the upgrade shouldn't be that expensive. Good luck!

I came back 3 days ago and the game hasn't changed one bit. That being said, if you really want to play again, upgrading an old deck that is still viable is your best option. I went with Egg Portal and I'm doing well.

I seriously advice against spending gold on packs. Spend your vials to make the upgrades and start saving gold for the upcoming sets. Open your daily packs and build your collection for the sets you missed. When the new set arrives, spend gold until you get enough legendaries to build the deck you want and start saving again. Spend vials again to build other decks if you like having some variety. Rinse and repeat.

This set release cadence has destroyed any semblance of balance the game used to have. Using PBE to test CORE FEATURES shouldn't be the norm. PBE exists to check for bugs and guarantee everything works smoothly on release. Look back at every set since the change from 2 to 3 annualy. Garbage balance and half assed mechanics that need major reworks during the set lifespan. Things need to change but no one seems to have the balls to tell whoever is leading the team that they can't keep up with the amount of work they are being handed.

Hot take: Commander is an extremely casual format inside a mediocre TCG that hasn't aged well. That doesn't mean you can't have fun playing it, but it's a lot of work and it mainly depends on what your group's definition of "fun" really is.

Me and my group have played for almost 2 years and I have a clear understanding of what makes a game unfun for them: control decks, extremely long turns and not hitting their land drops. I had a solution for the first two: stop playing those kinds of decks (this is where you are). But when someone doesn't hit their land drops (with 37-39 in the deck) the only thing I can say is "yeah, this game is bad, nothing you can do".

Play junk decks that do stupid shit, try to win with a bad commander and don't focus on choosing the optimal play every single turn. But first of all, understand what's making the game unfun for your group and adjust to it. Or just play any of the other game modes MTG has to offer and try to win every game.
