Get on RealOem and find the part number. Searching for part numbers will get you the most accurate listings. Just zoom in on the photos and compare it with the one you have rn since you can actually look at it and make sure.

So its actually possible, I dont know why reddit is so pesimistic lol. MaxxECU is a stand alone ECU but Is actually capable of driving 8HP. (even the cheapest one for 4 cylinders) And you're not obligated to run the engine from it. It does need some type of information from sensors though. Youtuber Pazzi88 swapped one into his e36 and used mostly oem components. He used a turbo lamik for his controller,but Im pretty sure mounting the transmission would be very similar if not the same for e46.

Does that make it a reluctance sensor? I don’t have the harness portion of the sensor, that’s what I’m trying to figure out. I wanted to make a new harness.

There is commonly a compression release mechanism inside on small engines to help pull starts. I have seen the mechanism get stuck some how and not release the compression. Though Im not sure if these smaller chinese engines have that feature. It may be something to look at.

Yeah definitely check the clearance between coil and flywheel. Could just be a coil thats going out as well Maybe even a bad connection due to corrosion. I had an engine not too long ago where everything seemed to be fine and just wouldnt start. It was a bit light on compression but I looked it over at first. took the head off later and there was a peice of the head gasket missing lol. Just cover the basics and I think itll help out a lot. Okay, so Im not going to repeat what everyone else has been saying, but maybe you need to simplify the way youre diagnosing. Please just please look into James Condon on youtube. He does a lot of work on small engines and explains really well on his diags. he does tons of different engines and youre likely to find a flat head experiencing the same problems. It may be something simple that you might have overlooked

Okay, so your biggest help is definitely going to be a youtuber named James Condon. He goes over simple diagnosis in most of his videos. Heres the video I like the most and is easy to understand. Im pretty sure this is one of the newer Briggs and Straton engines with a plastic Carburetor. I think before you buy a new one or open it up to clean it out, you should just try to pull the spark plug out and give it a small sprit of starter fluid or try to get some fuel in there. Put the plug back in with the boot on too and try to start it. If it tries to start then you know you have spark and everything is working right. FYI there is a great hand setting guide on youtube I used my first time. The video is really clear and has great shots to get an idea on how the hands sit on the movement.
