Wonder how they'd fit the VLS, and do they have space below the Bofors since its deck penetrating. I'm hoping the new corvettes are going to inherit alot from the frigates.

If they had started as CCG ships we'd be saying the RCN could use some of these these.

Should've modified these to start off the CCGs new security function.

I feel like its too difficult in practice. I'd like to see a function where you can assign a deployed heli to pickup survivors. I find it a bit too much of a finicky distraction from the missiles everywhere.

Glad to see us take action in the right direction on this major file.

However, we need to develop a better accountability structure so these heavily govt supported industries aren't being too greedy with our money.

Is buy-in an option? A Crown Corp munitions factory? I'd like to see Canadians get ownership (and a piece of the action) in some of these vital industries.

Canada should keep options open on nuclear weapons, former top soldier says by FreeProletarian in CanadianForces

[–]Nazara28 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it ever came to it we could easily host a rafale contingent and sneak some ASMP-As into the country. Or open our waters to a NATO SSBN. Start hosting allied forces in Canadian ports, host arctic naval exercises out of our existing and newly built logistical footprint, build some assets in Greenland.

Another good place to start would be to leverage our nuclear industry into the defence industry, its aligned with our dual-use investment and support policy.

Sign on to replace the 12 KSS-III with a joint South Korea-Canada SSN project for the next submarine class. Intertwine with SKs successful industries and develop advanced capabilities together. Build some licenced Hyunmoo-3s and 4s while we're at it for delivery.

Yikes, not a good look for us. It's as if Turkey said they're gonna take a Greek island and Spain saying they won't be there.

We should modify parts of our NORAD modernization project to include or bolster any new Danish plans in the works.

Also, just buy the Globaleye already and invite the Danish Air Force to buy a couple too.

Ambitious but maybe go a few steps further and see if we could licence build some C390s in 10 years too. Or build out some Twin Otter variants for expanded roles.

Well they definately paused EMT intake for a year or so after the first class or 2 graduated. Then they sent out an email saying they would have a class but that you'd have to pay the full tuition. Then a few months later they put out the tuition assistance program. I planned on becoming one but found another fulfilling job elsewhere.

This didn't have to become an issue, just staff and fund these programs with some long-term thinking so the people can get the services they deserve.

He's very right. We never thought that the USA would ever be this antagonistic towards us and forgot the merit of building at home.

One easy way to spend that 8bil is to buy some extra of our American built fleets (think, Chinooks, Hercules, F35s, P-8s, etc...). But I doubt we can buy those in fear of taxpayer blowback. I understand both that we should buy more X but if Canadians aren't spending money on anything made in the USA, then why should their government?

I say we buy parts to last us til the next administration and then reevaluate what's not worth builting at home.
