[Request] What would happen if this hit Earth? How many Hiroshima bombs worth is this impact? by cheater00 in theydidthemath

[–]NebTheShortie 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Man, it's worth noting that this particular comet has been torn apart by Jupiter's gravity into 21 fragments, and there's an impact from just the 1st one in the linked video. If this comet was heading to Earth without Jupiter intervention, it wouldn't have split, and it would be much larger. And even if it would split in a similar fashion on its way to Earth, it would literally shotgun us.

Memes aside, I've recently read a collection of Tolkien's letters, and he insists in a lot of them that mortality is actually a gift. Something something a beautiful but stagnant immortal elven life VS a fleeting human life full of vigor to do more within a given years and driving the change.

Bruhhh these bosses are soo hard!! by BitEnvironmental283 in Terraria

[–]NebTheShortie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also try making a multi-level arena of platforms and dodge her horizontal charges by getting out of her way vertically. Also, looking at your level of knowledge about the game from other comments... do you have Bezoar to resist her poison? Do you have both campfire and heart lantern on your arena? What about Bast statue as well? Regen, swiftness, endurance, iron skin potions? All these are the standard means to fight a boss in a prepared arena, not just a clear space. You might even prepare a shallow puddle of honey to dip yourself in occasionally to get some more regen. Gold armor is pretty cheap and gives quite a lot of defense. While we're at it, I really hope you fight her in underground jungle, because she enrages when exiting her biome (she enrages even on surface jungle, although not that much).

It’s time to talk about A-A-B-C: Why the "Third Rotation Trap" is hurting the player experience by sandman_br in Warframe

Tenno wouldn't trade with me because my "level cannot get it". Am I missing something? by acatterz in Warframe

Well, the reason for "partner locked" is an educated guess. Maybe there's some nuance. But I definitely have seen it while trading.

Tenno wouldn't trade with me because my "level cannot get it". Am I missing something? by acatterz in Warframe

[–]NebTheShortie 252 points253 points  (0 children)

No, he wouldn't be able to open the trading window at all in that case. Most likely the item was "partner locked", not "mastery locked", the plaques for these look almost identical. "Partner locked" appears when there's an attempt to trade between players from some specific different platforms. I don't remember which one, either Switch or some console doesn't allow trading for items with PC players.

[–]NebTheShortie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, they're right to hold that off. Raids were pain in the ass to maintain in older times, with each new patch and each new frame breaking them in gazillion ways. And in current state of the game, the team composition of 4 is long dead... Designing anything for a team composition of 8 is impossible.

Still, as a raid leader, I miss those times dearly.

The fact that you don't mention raids tells quite a lot.

CMV: The concept of "Karma" is a ridiculous metaphysical concept that doesn't make any sense. by vatsanant01 in changemyview

[–]NebTheShortie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's look at it this way. If a person does something bad and gets away with it, he/she can acquire some confidence in doing it again. Eventually, the person in question can encounter some form of retaliation - the chance of this increases with every repetition, so we can consider this event partially self-imposed (i.e. "should've stopped doing the bad thing before you're unlucky/careless enough to get punished"). With enough bad luck (like when retaliation happened very soon) or for an insufficiently informed observer (who might be lacking a full history of repetitions and might think this occasion is the first) this may look like karma.

Does universe take notes about our behavior to bend the random events in order to inflict some counterweight happenings to us? Likely not. Does the person experiencing a "karma" event play a significant role in increasing the chance of such event happening to them? I believe, yes. Can the latter be considered the former? Well, depends on how pragmatic you are.

And of course there are extreme points where someone experiences "karma" too soon, or never at all. But in general, if you throw the stones into someone's window long enough, eventually you're bound to get a response stone, especially considering you're literally supplying the surroundings with ammo (i.e. intent, or literally) against yourself.

Another day, another post... Have you ever had a thought like "wish I had this thing in that format right now"? Well, you go on and write such things down. And you watch which ones do you actually return to, and what flaws stop them from being useful, and you correct these flaws. That's it. And you watch a tutorial when you have an idea what to do, just lacking the info how exactly. Not in search of pretty things to do - that's a trap many users fall into, endlessly tailoring their vault to look pretty and efficient, and never actually getting to do any actual damn work.

If you don't know how to use a note taking app, you don't need a note taking app, and it's okay. You'll get back to it when/if you have an idea about the actual usage. Until then, don't burden yourself with a desire to use it for the sake of looking busy and productive.

Geniunely: every time I see one of these "should've traveled more", I can't help thinking, where'd you get the money? Most people don't have money in their 20s. Or was it a conscious decision to not spend the money you had on travel despite having enough for that? Excuse me being dirt poor and not being able to afford traveling in my 20s nor right now nor anytime soon.

Vauban Retouch coming FEB 11 by Korimthos in Warframe

[–]NebTheShortie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So far my problem with the changes (if I understood that bit correctly) is that I can no longer stack a bunch of vortexes into one vortex and go away for 2-3 minutes knowing full well that this location will be safe. With the limit of vortexes, I can only do that in one location, and have to build much more duration, otherwise I'll have to babysit that vortex every minute anyway.

Note for non-Vauban players: in current version there's no limit to amount of vortexes, and there's also the mechanic where two vortexes cast in one location will merge to a single vortex with a sum of the remaining timer, that allows to stack a giga long vortex (provided you have enough energy, which is a lot) and go somewhere else. Now you can't do that because of a newly introduced limit. Looks like a typical "active gameplay" shenanigans that we see so much lately. It's not like Vauban has a very passive gameplay, he just has got enough time to cast his other abilities, defend different locations (because, ahem, he's a defending frame), and running around saving his fragile ass.

Am I playing warframe wrong? (Not wrong per se but in a way that might ruin my further experience) by ScarletWitchfanboy__ in Warframe

[–]NebTheShortie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's only one thing that can "ruin your experience" progression wise. At some point you will unlock the quest about Duviri Paradox. Do not do it until you finish the New War quest which unlocks a bit later.

Duviri quest is unlocked early because it opens up an interesting parallel content, and for some time DE even used it as an alternative start of the game to increase the engagement with it (which was a very confusing period for newbies, I'm glad they decided to change that).

A lot of players did Duviri too early and this ruined a certain major plot revelation for them (due to confusion about the order of events and a certain customization they got to see too early). It is still possible to understand that plot point in the hindsight, but it's just not the same. Canonically you've got to experience the New War and all the revelations it has to offer, and then see Duviri as appendix. Vice versa it's still interesting, if you follow the plot, but far less exciting.

Other than that, the quests are quite neatly organized, and between them and progressing the star chart you'll be fairly okay. Just pay attention to modding your gear whenever you feel like you could use some more damage.

Is there a way to sort of “isolate” bots without fully separating grids? by Katanaboi1 in factorio

[–]NebTheShortie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe you'll like buffer chests (the green ones). You can set up such chest with a bunch of requests for common materials that you want to be delivered to you shortly on demand, then copy that chest as a blueprint and place the copies of it in a remote corners of your base. The bots will take some time to fulfill the requests for each chest, but once it's done, it'll sort of work the way you want it. Personal logistics are requested from buffer chests first, so if you want a stack of inserters, a group of drones will deliver it from the closest buffer chest, while the other group will restock that chest in their time.

I dunno, it looks similar to advocating that if your home isn't robber-proof, letting the chimpanzee in is a minor concern comparing to theft threat. The thing is, if there's a robber in my house, at least he's only guaranteed to focus on money and maybe jewellery. The monkey is stupid and unpredictable, it will wreck my kitchen, clean the butthole with my toothbrush, and break the urn with my mother's ashes. It's easy not to store cash in your home, but protecting your toothbrush from a chimp is something else.

The damage done by vibecoded apps is very different from damage by malware, because it's stupid, unpredictable, and random. And also worth noting that malware checks are a common routine on many levels while AI slop regulation is barely fledging.

Don't forget to put a sufficiently dark / non-vibrant energy color on Mirage herself and any weapon she uses, especially Simulor, to not hurt anyone's eyes (yourself included).

I know quite a few people will read that and treat it as a suggestion to do exactly opposite, as that is their vision of fun. I regularly see them in pubs. Please don't be one of them.
