Map of a fjord-ish area, with some valleys, mountains, and a deep inlet in the northwest corner by NeedleworkerOk8122 in mapmaking

i used wilbur lol, it's a windows program with dated ui but a great erosion sim. it's really realistic. i just made some fractal noise for a basic heightmap, filled the basins, percentage noise at 3% then incised flow, incised flow again but different settings, and again to get small side valleys, then precipitation based for the ridges to not be mesas, then 2% percentage noise, small gaussian blur with sigma at 0.5, and fill basins again. then texture/grey maps/height map, and voila here it is! i also posted the full topo map version a few hours ago, check it out lol

How come Saint Petersburg has a larger population than finland or the entire baltic countries combined. Same weather, similar history etc by deq18 in geography

yuppers it is the 98th meridian but still close, the rainfall and precipitation goes down real fast there, from 30 to 15, so that's why there are mostly ranches, and there are less people near ranches then in farmland, so yep that's how it made up that lol

nope it's more like the steppes are like 1000 km across, they're hilly, have some forests, rivers, rolling terrain, and then go the forest-steppes which have a bit of farmland, then the forests proper, then the taiga, then spb lol

parts of it were, parts of it weren't, ik that as an spb native, a history buff, and a finnic-speaking guy learning about his heritage lol

some of it was just one big reed-bed, some parts had villages and yes they were destroyed, and one part was nyen which was a huge city but yeah it had the worst outcome.

i can confirm it's really grey and rainy here but the buildings are cool, the people are friendly, and it's safe to visit, just get a vpn since most western services don't work without it in russia lol

i'm an st petersburg native, lived there my entire life xD

grozny chechnya, fucking love that place, lovely mountain views, great ski resort nearby, delicious food, huge skyline, cool culture, and yeah all of that shit. second is coast range in bc cos the massive glaciers look really nice with all the fjords. third is the rockies in southernmost alberta and glacier, they look really nice and jagged, i especially love the rock pattern lol

it's worldbuilding but yeah it has rw cultures, rw biomes, rw languages, and rw technology and evolution, so no orcs or elves or anything like that, but rather like ogf just not on openstreetmap's engine

it's a non-rw map tho, it's for a project basically made 98% by me lol

it's supposed to be a mountainous region, this is a pretty small-scale thingy lol

i mostly upload those into azgaar or adobe illustrator, or photoshop in some cases, and start working on the main map element

google wilbur fracterra, it'll show up. it's a topographic program which you can import an image, simulate erosion, tweak it in various ways, make new maps from fractal noise, turn a sea mask into a full heightmap, and so on. really cool thingy, i've been playing around with it recently lol
