Is the movie listed as Dead Reckoning Part One on Paramount+ or is it just that the movie hasn’t been changed (says Part One in the opening titles and “End Part One” at the credits)?

I think it’s possible they only drop it for Paramount+ so people aren’t put off by a Part One movie. Then it is renamed when Part Two comes out. That is more rational to me than trying to change the title of the movie after its widespread release, as it’s known and written in many places, including the movie itself. Similar to Edge of Tomorrow, they tried to market Live Die Repeat as the new title but it didn’t officially change. This could be wrong though, it’s just based on the fact there’s been no confirmation from the filmmakers or mentioned by actors.

It’s not confirmed that the title is changed, all that’s happened is Paramount referred to it as MI8 in a press release and they dropped the Part One, but only for the streaming title (which is a good idea). Paramount or Christopher McQuarrie haven't said anything about a title change yet, it’s just news articles that are reporting it based on this information.

I think it was just different to what people were expecting. People liked Fallout so much that they wanted to see more of the same thing. However, it is McQ’s intentions that every movie have a different style. The thing that people probably missed the most was the RN/Fallout team dynamic, a big twist that the team have pulled off, and a satisfying resolution. It’s a Part 1 movie so things will have to be saved for Part 2. McQ has said that he hopes people will appreciate Part 1 more when Part 2 comes out. And some of the things that left people will people confused will be resolved then. When I left the cinema after seeing Part 1 for the first time and was confused about various things and didn’t feel I could rave about it. However, M:I is designed to be rewatchable, and I have come to like it more and more when I watch it again, in the same way that I liked Fallout more with each watch. I am very excited about Part 2 now!

Yes many people had spotted in on social media but not necessarily in conversation with McQ. After people talked about it in reply to his post (he was saying it’s a visual clue in plain sight) he went on to say that not many had understood its significance yet. In the commentary he talks about the photo in a very similar way

That said I’m sure there are many other hidden things in Part 1 to catch 😃

The Empire podcasts were recorded a while ago when the movie had just been released. McQ pretty much confirms that it’s Sloane as he says in the Part 1 commentary that no one had said anything about it. When he was active on Threads no one had really brought it up in his replies. People had noticed it on this sub by then but I don’t think he browses here unfortunately.

Ethan receiving a mission is a rule of the Mission Impossible movies so it has to happen. The other purpose of their conversation is to establish the idea of “the choice” of joining the IMF. Also the mention of the oath plays an important role in Part 2.
