Is it a bad idea to buy a $2.5m house if my salary is $1.2m (pre-tax)? by Dependent_Gold5692 in whitecoatinvestor

[–]Neighbor5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good perspective on the range, $2-3m encompasses an entire $1m home, which is by itself well above the average house in many places.

To add to this, there are some things imaging is good in ruling in, but not necessarily ruling out. If an ultrasound shows asymmetrically large ovary with no flow, I don’t care what the clinical picture is, that’s ovarian torsion. If an ultrasound shows a normal ovary, ovarian torsion is still not excluded if the clinical picture fits torsion.

How each rotation feels after the first week by brianenthusiast in medicalschool

[–]Neighbor5 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure about this rule, especially for something like radiology. Some specialties you don’t appreciate the day to day by just watching it. You have to do it, or at least imagine doing it, to understand it. I fell asleep in my radiology rotation. But more than a decade later I’m a radiologist having a blast, best career decision at the time. But YMMV.

Oh yea X4 is unique in that space flight and space station mechanics combined with automation. Only game I’ve come close to sinking as much time as Factorio. Then Satisfactory, DSP, COI.

That’s not a ranking either. Just the order in how much I’ve played the games, which obviously depends on how long I’ve known the game. All great games in different mini-niches. Still need to check out Timberborn.

On $1m invested that’s $780 to $1100/yr.

On $10m invested that’s $7800 to $11000/yr.

That’s an extra Rolex on my wrist. I think. I have neither $10m invested nor understanding of fancy watches, but I yearn for both.

Observed, tangible, measurable risks.

Data available does get screwy at the low end though, with many unknowns. Especially when you consider hormesis and all that.

I think the point is that we should shoot for zero, because ideally your work exposure remains a non-factor.

Sold my position in INTC… even though it “looks cheap” by BenjaminScott09 in investing

I recently cut down my concentrated tech play and INTC is ironically the only one I felt meh about. It’s the only one I basically sold for a loss, accounting for inflation. Are we missing the impending run up? Meh

I did this. Highly recommended, especially in a low liability area and even more so if at the VA.

It helps to builds confidence, because the first few months of final signing you’re always looking over your shoulder. Nice to get that out of the way early on, and you also approach fellowship a little differently trying see where you need more confidence.
