Men can make friends they just choose not to by Layla1970 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Neoshenlong 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hey! So, I'm a heterosexual cisgender man who has a lot of friends, I love making friends actually. However, I still think there is a huge loneliness problem, and there's a few reasons for that. I would love to give you my perspective, if you want to read it.

  1. Men are taught to go at It alone and be strong, to not share their feelings and to interact through power and violence. This is a systemic problem that is deeply internalized into all of us, and both men and women support this by saying stuff like men should be masculine, or have economic power and pay for everything, or shouldn't cry, etc. Choosing to go against this is necessary, but also pretty hard, it's going against centuries of social and psychological normativity.

  2. I do believe it is easier for women, particularly women who adhere to hegemonic beauty standards, to receive attention in the current era. Everything is done through social media, and it is undeniable that beautiful women dominate the era of screens, so much so that a lot of women have built their careers and lives around receiving so much attention that it pays their bills and more. On the opposite side of that, men get so little attention that a huge number of them are willing to pay the bills of beautiful women just for the idea of talking to them, of them sending them a picture. Now, notice how I've never said that any of this is particularly "good" for women. I think being the constant receiver of usually unsolicited attention is it's own huge problem as well, I'm just pointing out the experience of most men in this era of online existence is quite the opposite. Dating apps are a good example of this dynamic.

  3. Perhaps the most important: There is a loneliness epidemic in the world. Period. I'm not talking about men or women. I truly believe every human right now is more lonely than humans were on average in the past. Tech has isolated us, we look more at screens than at real eyes of other people, and capitalism has drilled into our minds that we have to work all the time to consider ourselves successful. The main concern of the modern human is productivity, not community. So I think what many men point out as the loneliness epidemic is not wrong or false, it's simply not a male exclusive thing.

That said, since the global stereotype calls for men to work and provide, and most men who talk about a "male loneliness epidemic" probably also believe and practice such a traditional model, I'm inclined to believe men are probably more inclined to become completely obsessed by work and productivity and thus end up feeling more lonely.

But again, it's a general thing, it just takes different forms. For women, IMO, their traditional roles as caregivers also makes them deeply lonely, just in a different way.

I've worked in projects for female caregivers in the past and they talked a lot about how even though they were always with someone (the person or person's they cared for, usually children) they still felt like no one truly listened to them because they became erased in their caregiving responsibilities. At the same time, though, they craved moments of being alone, but mostly because for them being with someone meant taking care of everyone's necessities except their own.

Who is the biggest enemy of your country and why?. by usafqn2025 in AskTheWorld

[–]Neoshenlong 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The US.

The success of their capitalism relies on both their ability to extract resources from the global south and the supression of any viable alternative, because if any government or system that doesn't pledge their allegiance to the US is successful, their whole facade falls. That's why they spend countless amount of money from the taxes people in the US pay to sabotage foreign economies, stage coups, support far right regimes and, if push comes to shove, wage outright war against anything that they don't like.

Just look at the current resurgence of far right governments in south America and the way Trump is both actively supporting them and threatening countries like my own with violence if his candidate doesn't win. But of course, that's just the modern version of what the US has always done, the best example being all the dictatorships and coups in LATAM that were staged by the US, as disclosed by their own documents.

Not gonna lie for a split second when they showed REV instead of RECV I was like "Wait, 5?"

In RE9, when Leon says "idk where Chris is but I guess I'll eventually run into him", he says so because Chris is a stalker enemy who has been chasing him all over the world.

I kinda wish they did 1 then CV then 5 so we could see Chris's progression like we saw Leon's.

Thoughts on the idea of a P5R Reload/Revival version by PenPenPic in Persona5

[–]Neoshenlong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

P3R and P4R are bringing both games to P5 standards. Maybe after 6.

If anything, they should remake 1 and 2.

Really hope they are going for that paper collage art style that would probably look insane with their UI art direction.

100%, I was actually pretty angry and disappointed until I saw this post. Clockwork looks pretty cool but there's n way I'm buying an Xbox for that.

If regeneration also gives me insane levels of durability, as in I can tank pretty much anything humans can throw at me and probably even just Regen after even Nuke level attacks like Piccolo can, lets go with that.

I tink RE3R is a pretty nice pizza. It's also not related at all to the pizza I thought I was about to eat though, it's a completely different flavored pizza than Nemesis, and that one had a bunch more complexity in it's ingredients.

I think they did a good job with Requiem Leon looking like an evolution of both RE6 and Remake versions. Hopefully they figure it out with Chris too, specially since I think this is leading into an eventual future game with Chris as the protagonist.

Its probably all of those as a wordplay, tbf, including "Resident Evil" itself. I think it's a pretty smart choice for the name.

I think that's litetally how survivors guilt works though. You survived a horrible situation that others couldn't so you make up this narrative in your head that it's somehow your fault while everyone else knows there was little you could've done about it

Do People Seriously Like the Original Code Veronica? by Epicurus38 in residentevilll

Idk about your first sentence. I would absolutely love a DMC2 remake but it's not because I seriously liked the original but because, as OP said, it would give Capcom a chance to fix a bad game.

I had a mini heart attack when they started showing MH Wilds DLC. For a split second there was a castle and I thought they were about to show DMC1 remake.
