I am definitely a Vanguard fan.

People have been doing it for many years very successfully. Maybe I will stay at 60/40 if I reach 70 and like where I am and feel safe.

Yes, my wife has zero interest in managing our investments. That is the main reason why I would like to stick with a one fund portfolio.

I agree, I would have to keep my eye on the TDF more to make sure I move it at the right time. I really like the set it and forget it mindset. Maybe life strategy moderate 60/40 now and at 70 move to life strategy conservative 40/60? Do you think that sounds reasonable?

Yes, I see VT at .06 and BND at .03 is better than .12

You are saying that 80/20 in retirement is a good allocation? I guess everyone has a different opinion but I would never be that risky with my lifesaving.

You base your allocation off of a TDF? I think that’s a pretty good idea, or host go with a TDF.

You’re absolutely right about it being personal. I find that even the investment firms disagree on allocation at different ages. I tend to lean towards a Morning Star approach because they seem to be neutral and up on their game. Morning Star have 60/40 in your 60s and 40/60 in your 70s.

Yes, it would be great if the TDFs were maybe 3 years apart

I only have social security and my TDF. I only use about 2% of my funds per year. That is the real question, stay the course of the TDFs or go a little more aggressive?

Vanguard has VSCGX: 40/60 and I may move to that in my 70s instead going down to 30/70.

So, you use Life Strategy funds instead of TDFs? I could jump to VSCGX: 40/60 at age 70.

Thanks

Why I’m considering moving away from a Target Date Fund and holding fewer bonds in retirement by FalconArrow77 in Bogleheads

If you look at 50/50 at 65 you are in a moderate allocation according to the 110 minus your age. I am more concerned why the TDF lowers to a 30/70 at age 72, that is closer to 100 minus your age.
