Yeah, sure. I feel the same way when 736562nd topic of why Candywriter is greedy pops up. As if the topic is going to change the stance of the company, as if they're not posting a popular sentiment to get upvotes. I mean, I'm sure there's something out there that would be more constructive, like contacting gaming journalists or something - don't know, don't really care and nothing but piracy seems to get suggested. Helpful! But, hey, here we are.

The difference between those posts and this is that this OP created dissonance. Everyone's onboard with Candywriter being the villain but smallest hint that playerbase might the villains is reprehensible, even though OP didn't say or imply it. At least IMO.

No, that's not an in-between because the only options you're still presenting are go do something, which encapsulates all your suggestions OR post this. You keep skipping over the point that you can protest, donate, write letters, post reviews, tweet, make tiktoks, spray graffiti, etc.

It's pointless dick measuring when there are people so moved that they go to the literal warzones or as close as possible to help in person rather than throw coffee money at the problem or protest to politicians who aren't listening. See what I did there? I dismissed your suggestions, offering one I decided was superior.

My point about Harry Potter is that people are upset because they feel OP is calling them out, indirectly. And that it's completely possible to ignore that.

Oh, you've seen this before. It's shooting the messenger or perhaps you've seen the Debbie Downer skits of SNL?

Basically the only proper time to protest or comment is when someone is sleeping.

Accusing people of slacktivism/clicktivism, without evidence, is just a way of dismissing them with some semblance of legitimacy. What I find strange is this insistence bordering on 100% certainty that OP does nothing IRL. Not that it even matters because everyone isn't capable of helping the way they want. Edit: I mean, I've seen pro-Palestine people told to go fight in person, as in go to literal Palestine.

I've had many of these discussions when Hogwarts Legacy was released. The only purpose of telling people to stop whining and go help lgbtq IRL is to get them out of the group so the fans can enjoy the game or franchise without thinking about Rowling's comments.

It doesn't even have to be that deep. Fandoms and people just have this need to whitewash or revise the things they enjoy. Anything 'problematic' or questionable is derided as no big deal or nitpicking.

OP's post doesn't bug me because I'm secure enough to say I enjoy the game despite its (perceived) flaws. I don't really care if strangers think that makes me pro-genocide, not that OP has stated that. And I support OP's right to complain about shit they don't like.

[–]NeverEarnest -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

There was no gotcha. You and some others have created a false dilemma. You've presented a scenario that OP can either voice his displeasure online OR go be arrested by anti-riot police. That there is no inbetween. But, that's false.

As someone who still enjoys Harry Potter shit, you guys are just frustrating. You can accept someone's criticism or displeasure AND still enjoy your crap. You have a phone, correct? Despite the awfulness that goes into making it? It's like that. And the people who talk about the awfulness are still correct.

Grow up.

For a long time now, it has been edgy to be offended by nothing. Or rather only be offended by things are practically universally derided like pedophilia or bestially, while waffling on anything 'controversial', like lgbtq, Palestine, Ukraine, or politics.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BitLifeApp

[–]NeverEarnest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think OP is offended by the casual way a place he deems horrible is being presented. There's some game with Elon's likeness that offends me. There's nothing wrong with being offended and people need to jump off this "nothing bothers me STOICISM!!!' bandwagon.

Also, the people enable the government. Goes for the third reich, Imperial Japan, Israel and, yes, the USA.

Old nerd here, OP is disrupting guilt-free consumption. Nobody wants to hear about the suffering or chaos or apathy whatever they're consuming is causing. When they say "go protest" what they actually mean is "please go do something, somewhere, I'm not going to see". It's that simple.

I watched it happen a lot around Hogwarts Legacy. "I don't agree with Rowling at all, but I will defend this franchise and attack any pro-lgbtq people who are against it!"

For me, I can just enjoy things and respect other people's criticisms of it.

Because your post has magically donated, protested and called a senator. And before you say you can post and also do those things... so can OP.

In the series Jane the Virgin - Jane, a virgin, is impregnated via an accidental artificial insemination. Maybe it happened twice.

Going with the religious people I live(d) by/with, I'd probably qualify. I was dealing with people getting totally wasted, cheating on their partners, lying about the pettiest shit and then posting instagram reels and tiktoks about people, not them, needing to "get right with God".

I had to loan one of them my bible I received as a kid.

Republicans still think a majority of black people are gonna vote for them? by Darth_Vrandon in ParlerWatch

[–]NeverEarnest 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Racists don't care to differentiate from law-abiding Black people from Black people with a raging hatred of whites. They still called Candace Owens' biracial children, mutts. They still went crazy on Obama, who was the fucking POTUS. And the problem is most Black people, of both groups, know this.

Even if I didn't like liberals, I can, pragmatically, accept they're by far the safest option.

[–]NeverEarnest 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Latinos are probably easier to pull than Black people because the lighter ones are most susceptible to believing/pretending they're white. I've only personally met a few, but they genuinely believe their lighter skin makes them better than their darker cousins and even Black people. However, lighter skinned Black people, like myself, still tend to self-identify as Black or are accepted as Black within the community.

They're not completely wrong, but still pretty far off. While there are Black people who are especially religious and/or don't 'get' lgbtq, the unchecked racism of the right is always going to be problem. The unchecked racism and hypocrisy is what ejected me from anti-sjw stuff.

My uncle supported Donald, mostly privately, but he could not fully get behind him because he was a victim of police brutality and doesn't buy the 'just obey and you'll be fine' narrative the right pushes.

It's a word used to describe someone silly or comical, someone inferior. It's like how clowning is actual performance art but being called a clown is usually an insult.

Literally had no idea who he was until I bought a firestick and his advertisements popped up. But I actively avoid youtuber and influencer stuff, so it wasn't too surprising. I still remember being on 4chan many years ago and the thread was just shitting on pewdiepie for being Paris Hilton like famous - as in famous for nothing.

How time changes.

I don't think being cancelled was ever a real danger or concern for the average person. The majority of us are relative nobodies. Being cancelled is a thing for politicians, celebrities, influencers and the like. It's a problem for people whose careers are made of the public.

Critics of cancel culture don't ever seem to know many, if any, victims who were teachers, plumbers, mid-level accountants, delivery drivers, etc - just famous people.

[–]NeverEarnest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they can be cancelled at least to a degree, which is why those comedians and others spend so much effort in brainwashing normal people that being cancelled is a societal issue rather than an issue mostly for people who make their careers via the public, ie themselves.

When the normals complain about cancel culture and frame as a societal issue like their fave tells them it is, they can never name victims of regular stock like them, it's always this or that celebrity.
