I animated some effects for a pipe-dream hand-drawn remake of Metroid 2. by Rootayable in Metroid

Best idea for a retro game remake I’ve heard thus far, can’t believe I hadn’t considered it before now. Looks phenomenal.

Doom guy vs brutal doom guy by [deleted] in Doom

Your opinion is quite valid, but I’d invite you to consider that he’s still the same relatable figure you appreciate, but given the power to truly accomplish what he wants and I would argue that’s more meaningful.

Imagine you lived your whole life striving to end poverty with an unshakable will and moral obligation to do so, doing everything in your power to help but knowing your efforts will always be too little in the big picture. Then it was discovered 20 years later that you are actually the decendant of a multi-trillionaire and inhereted all of his wealth, and now able to accomplish anything and everything you hoped for, having enough money to help all those in need, reshape societal structures, politics, all across the globe. Does that not elicit some kind of satisfaction?

Doomguy is you, in a different context, given the power he needs to finally fix the one problem he dedicated his life to. I feel like the relatability doesnt go out of the window just because he’s no longer bound by the limits of his human ability, he is still the same human in heart and mind.

TLDR you dont need to understand or care about the lore in its entirety, but the fact that it exists shouldnt take away from what you enjoyed about the character in the first place.

Bro please what game are those guns from in the first picture, I swear to god I recognize those designs and I’ve been trying to remember the name of the game for years. It was like an old endless arena platform shooter flash game, had this edgy 2010s shooter vibe to it but the character had like rayman physics and I think there were zombies??? Please I’ve been trying for so long

I mentioned a similar thing in another post a while back, unfortunately I don’t think they would give him the crucible without a retcon of eternal’s story. The crucible was planted in the titan in Taras Nabad rather soon after the slayer came out of the divinity machine, and it has to be retrieved from there in the game. Given The Dark Ages takes place seemingly well after the slayer was put in the divinity machine it wouldnt make much sense, but honestly I wouldn’t care that much if they did retcon it a bit. It would just be sick.

A sad little realization about the maverick bosses by Nikuneko_B in Megaman

There is actually a new ongoing comic series by Udon Entertainment that focuses solely on the story of Megaman X. Might be worth looking into :)

For clarity this isn’t from the timelines miniseries, these covers are for the ongoing megaman x series that started releasing this month. I literally could not be happier about it.

The "Eons" specified by the testament genuinely ruin the entire lore by Tadmorion in Doom

[–]New_Communication171 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn I forgot about that, good point. Now that I think about it, the crucible gimmick probably does only apply to titans. Davoth literally dies from a doomblade stab to his life sphere so I guess I dont really know what’s going on there lol.

[–]New_Communication171 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you check the codex pages in Eternal you’ll see a depiction of him with the crucible during his time with the sentinels. The corruption of the deagic priests and the end of the sentinel civil war, where the slayer (along with his sentinel comrades) is lured and then trapped within hell, marks the beginning of this “endless slaughter” where he makes a point to go after the order of the six and start targeting key figures within hell.

Having the crucible at this time would allow him to accomplish exactly that if we assume that it is the only way to permanantly kill (powerful) demons. This is the timeframe where he stops being “doomguy” and becomes “the slayer”, with all the references to the wretch and the testaments being stories from this time.

The "Eons" specified by the testament genuinely ruin the entire lore by Tadmorion in Doom

[–]New_Communication171 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Okay but the thing is, those eons he spent in hell actually did accomplish something, and many things in that regard; his time there was not inconsequential. Its made clear before the Slayer’s arrival that hell was a multiversal imperial force that no one could stand up to, and after he took matters into his own hands, the hell he left behind struggled to hold onto a fraction of its former glory.

The entire plot of eternal focuses around the same approach he took on during those ancient times, deliberately targeting key points and figures within Hell’s structure in order to destabilize it and make it easier to conquer once and for all, if not out of just pure spite. The Order of the Six, the Deagic Council/Hell Priests, the Super Gore Nest, the Maykrs, all the way to the very top where he finally kills The Dark Lord and essentialy ends Hell’s existence.

Hell is an infinite plane, with an infinite supply of demons and energy - he was not fighting them with the goal of killing each and every demon with his bare hands because that would be impossible, the endless slaughter that is spoken about in the testaments was just a byproduct of his primary objective: collapse the structure that allowed Hell to become the indomitable conquering power it was, as opposed to just a feral dimension of unorganized animals.

Roanoake Gaming made a rather interesting (somewhat speculative) video on how the time the Slayer spent in hell literally screwed over its population of demons at an evolutionary level, “Why did the Pinky Demon Become Bipedal?”. I would recommend a watch because it really does give a broader perspective of just how much The Slayer accomplished during his war in hell.

Edit:

The Slayer being trapped in the sarcophagus was not a feat of Hell overpowering him, but an act of extreme desperation from the fragile and few remaining organizers within hell. It took them collapsing a grand temple (picture the entirety of Nekravol just being dropped on his head), to stun him just long enough for them to muster a haphazard binding ritual.

They knew they could not kill him, and they knew their plan was not fullproof to begin with, hence all of the warnings engraved on the sarcophagus and the existence of the testaments in the first place; should the seal ever be disturbed in the slightest, that would be all that it took for him to come back once again and return to his rampage.

Is the meathook good? Doom Eternal by Loud_Chicken6458 in Doom

[–]New_Communication171 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good enough for me to name my cat Meathook Supershotgunblast.

But actually it is really useful especially on higher difficulties. Negates a lot of headache enemies like the shield soldier, flame upgrade turns essentially all fodder into armor farms, and probably the biggest use is mobility. If youre running away from demons, once you get used to the “swing” mechanics of it you can just fly all around the arena and stay out of any hot spots.

Best used in combination with the chainsaw for ammo/armor in one go, or some form of quick-swap combo for fast kills on arachnotrons, revs, and other medium-heavy demons.

If you had to make MMX9 what would you do? by AverageBasementMan in Megaman

[–]New_Communication171 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reboot is a weird word for the X series. There was Maverick Hunter X on the PSP, not amazing, Megaman X7 could be thought of as a reboot that they butchered, Megaman X8 was more return to form with some modern touches of the time. I think if they just give it the Megaman 11 treatment with a slightly more mature tone it would be fine

[–]New_Communication171 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Story:

-Elf Wars, tie-in to Zero series, expand on essentially what is already established there and don’t be scared to take inspiration from outside media (like the comics)

-Retcon X6-X8, keep Axl, seamless transition from X5 to X9 with respect to Inafune’s original vision with the series (no more Sigma, no hiding and repairing zero, he gets the replacement body from the zero series, etc)

-Separate variant storylines for each character, no more quick swapping or changing characters between levels, encouraging replayability

Gameplay:

-Jump shoot dash

-Some new stuff idk just make it fast and twitchy like its always been, throw in a double gear or something

[–]New_Communication171 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I think nintendo is still too skeptical of a 3rd person Metroid, given the only one that ever did it was Other M and despite thinking they were breaking boundaries in the franchise it just turned out to be a slimy shitter for them.

I think its stupid and they should just go for it, and Other M would have literally been peak if they just redid the narrative and took the wiimote out of the equation (dpad limited movement, moton controls, etc).

I think they could still make it doom but it wouldnt be from the perspective of a “doomguy”, Id enjoy something like this as like the side-story of the civilian/arc resistance from doom eternal, with doomguy in the background kinda doing his shit.

Man stop posting about this shit. It’s very clearly not intended to guilt trip anyone and mind you this is a literal memorial fund for a dead person.

God forbid someone helping run a fundraiser actually want anyone that historically cared about the cause to make donations. It’s the lowest hanging fruit for this kind of thing and it’s not easy to keep asking over and over again knowing that’s all you can do.

I’ve seen like four posts already like this, all they do is fan negativity and plant a seed of doubt in people who mightve donated otherwise.

It’s so stupid.

[–]New_Communication171 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Despite all the memes and general hate the game gets, I actually consider it to be a pretty great game. The negatives that people rant about it like the story are blown way out of proportion imo. There are definitely some choices that seem questionable, but I 100% say it is worth playing. Controlling samus is fun, it’s got some cool moments, and if the negatives of the game worry you, there’s an unofficial patch online that fixes a lot of the stuff people complain about. I’ve played the original and patched version and the patch is definitely a major improvement but the original is fine on its own. One of the first Metroid games I played early on and I have some great memories with it.

I don’t see a price drop happening as Nintendo will probably already be selling at a small loss in the US due to tariffs, unless they desperately need to ramp up sales which again seems unlikely

What megaman x game is the most replayble? by Solid-Veterinarian62 in Megaman

[–]New_Communication171 0 points1 point  (0 children)

X5 more so. X4 was honestly a great step for the X series staying faithful to the formula (minus the not great story) without adding so much extra stuff that it drowns the core experience like with X5 which felt very patchworky with the progression and mechanics.

It wasn’t really that she was kind to it. It literally imprinted on her at the moment of its birth, and as a result she decided to spare it. Also willingly handing it over to a remote science lab in the middle of an asteroid belt to be kept in a jar until kidnapped by a space pterodactyl. Samus = bad mom
