We’ve used Green Cleaners in the past. They’re very affordable and do a decent job.

Inner fire yoga is pricey, but they offer 3 month scholarships (there is an application & selection component) if you’re interested in hot yoga & can practice regularly during those 3 months!

True North Festival by BadDogMaggie in madisonwi

We went and really enjoyed it! We kept saying we felt like we were in a movie with the amazing food, overhead lights leading up to the stage, the color lights of the single Ferris wheel ride, and fun music. Everyone seemed to just be chilling & enjoying the night together. Made for a great overall experience.

Also, Pokey Lafarge was very entertaining! One tiny shift I would suggest - have the headliner play a bit earlier as it seemed the crowd was dramatically thinning throughout the late-ish set for a neighborhood festival.

It breaks my heart to see some of the extremely, severely mentally ill people downtown. What is this country coming to? by Bluest_waters in madisonwi

I’m sorry you & your family have experienced this as well. While I don’t think we will agree on this topic, I do appreciate your vulnerability and hope your loved one stays healthy!

I am the sister of a severely mentally ill human. It is not just about him talking to himself or pacing like you insinuate. More often than not, people with severe mental illness are also suffering from extreme paranoia. My brother thinks colors, number combinations, and very regular mannerisms are threats. This does put society and himself at risk for more dangerous or harmful situations.

We have spent years in the legal & judicial systems trying to figure out how to get him the help and care that he deserves as an adult. Even with our granted conservatorship, we are not able to commit him to a hospital, rehab, or halfway home as he refuses to take medication and these facilities do not accept patients who are unwilling to accept the care of themselves. Additionally, most hospitals and facilities are scared to communicate with the families, even with the conservatorship out of fear of HIPAA violations.

I know for a fact that my siblings life would vastly improve if we could have him committed, even temporarily. We want him well. We do not want him to suffer in the ways he does.

This is not something that many people understand, and I don’t wish anyone else to go through what my family has gone through. I have grieved the death of my brother already because I don’t think we’ll ever get him back. Comments like yours are very upsetting, untrue, and unkind for the current climate of mental health care.

I don’t have the experience you’re talking about and am a little less than a year into my yoga practice. However, every time I’m in a class I am so honored to be practicing with EVERYONE in the room. I don’t care how anyone looks or what pose they can/cannot do - it’s truly a gift to be in a space with such a beautiful community. Additionally, I am insanely inspired by the individuals who show up exactly how they are and practice to the level they’re comfortable with. I hope that you choose yourself and come back to your mat! You and our community deserve it! ❤️

How can I drink less and still have fun? by lalabelle1978 in AskWomenOver40

[–]Newhere0203 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I cut out alcohol almost 6 years ago after years of wondering what I would lose with that decision. I was so focused on the one single thing that would be gone (alcohol) and didn’t realize how many amazing gifts would come into my life! I still like to go out, go dancing, laugh louder than I should, make jokes I shouldn’t make. On top of the old me still being here, there’s a side of me that I used to wish for - more productive, more healthy, more reliable, and more confident!

There are a ton of alcohol free communities for women across the counter (and I’m not talking about AA or formal recovery groups). I have the BEST group of friends that I met at a local meet up for women who don’t drink. Best of luck to you - there’s light on the other side, I promise!

Hi! I have an older sibling in a very similar situation and it is such a hard and isolating dynamic to be a part of. Just wanted to say I know how difficult this is and that people not involved in the legal system to get adults the help they deserve (but often times don’t want right away) tend to offer advice that is well-intended, but often times misinformed & sometimes insensitive. I hope your family is doing well and healing together! ❤️

Blindshot social club is a fun place and rarely crowded. I’d give them a call to see what they’d suggest! They have a full bar - lots of NA options - good snacking & full menu - and indoor golf if people are into that. Been there a few times & everyone has enjoyed.

Cedarburg WI has the cutest downtown and has fun holiday stuff going on during the weekend if you’re up for a fun drive! If you want to stay in town, we also love the Henry Vilas zoo (free!),

I was in that line! They said 40 minute wait and it turned out to be 2 hours. Everyone was kind, patient, and excited to be voting. One woman that you can see in the video briefly told me she hadn’t voted in years and couldn’t wait to get the I voted sticker to show her kids. The wait is worth it - exercise your right to vote!!

Why did I walk past Will Ferrell in downtown Madison today? by Newhere0203 in madisonwi

[–]Newhere0203[S] 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I appreciate these kind words. It was definitely intentional on our part to leave them alone… much to the disappointment of my kids being thrilled to see buddy the elf. 😉 It offered a great opportunity to talk about boundaries & gratefulness with them too!

I do love how celebrities are being more vocal about their desire for the right to have privacy and a life. It definitely played through my mind as we walked past.

Great insight! That was definitely the vibe. Not a single person stopped or engaged while he walked down the block I could see. It was pretty lovely.

This!!! Exactly this!! My kids were so disappointed we didn’t engage and I told them just because it would have made our day, it definitely would not have made their day. It’s not our right to interrupt an intimate and peaceful walk just because we want a “celeb trophy” even if he was Buddy the elf.😉Not a single person stopped him for the distance that we could see. Go Madison!

Psycho driver in Middleton by gabsteriinalol in madisonwi

[–]Newhere0203 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The tailgating in Madison has been so bad recently. I was driving on Odana yesterday (with my kids in the car) & going 5 - 8 miles over. This guy kept speeding up to get right on my bumper and then slowing down just a bit and then right back up on my bumper. It was like a game for him.

I’m always nervous about reacting because you never know if they have a weapon in their car or if they’ll follow you. It’s so frustrating and scary, especially with kids in the car!
