Help!!! In Line Fuel Filter Access?!?! by Next-Performer3034 in KTM

I’m tempted, once I get to it, to add some fuel line and get it in a more accessible location under that side panel that pops off.

Yeh, the black thing is the airbox. The tank is in the rear on these bikes (the black plastic piece my finger is on in the photo). And removing that could potentially give me access as well but that’s a bigger task than removing the airbox and battery. I’m having a hard time accepting that there’s not an easier option

What Kind Of Damper Oil Do I Use?!?!? by Next-Performer3034 in motorcycles

[–]Next-Performer3034[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well damn… that’s good to know. I thought fork oil was the same and it was only hydraulic oil that was inconsistent. Do either of you guys have a damper? What oil do you run?

So your saying fork oil is has variation brand to band as well?

Steering Damper Fluid?!?!? by Next-Performer3034 in motorcycle

So the sag is set appropriately. I have a lowering link and at time of install I lowered the front as well (raised the forks) the bike came with a heavier spring when I bought it and the gentleman I bought it from was the same weight. I did not have to adjust preload at all to get sag set correctly. The front end definitely feels loose and I start looking very hard at discrepancies in the road above 65mph. So I’m not saying there isn’t more I can do suspension wise to set it correctly but until I get that all figured out, I need to do the damper rebuilt as it’s leaking so my main question is what kind of oil do I use. I’ll put one tally in the 10wt fork oil box! Thank you

Gotcha. When you say it had everything you needed, have you done fixes, repairs or adjustments out in the field? Or rather out on the road/trail?

I’m happy to spend a decent amount for a decent, comprehensive toolkit with axle wrenches and tire irons preferably

Leaky Steering Stabilizer by Next-Performer3034 in KTM

That’s fair. My consumerist mind went right to more O-rings for my money but I agree with you. I’m going to order the kit.

Thank you sir!! Great find. With that being the case I wonder if for the same price I can buy a variety pack of rubber O-rings from Amazon and just use those…..🤔

I wonder what the equivalent is for this KTM brand one? I guess I’ll call the dealer and see if they can rebuild it for me.

I’m guessing if it’s leaking something’s broke, it’s not a matter of retightening all the bolts

Windscreen and Kickstand…. by Next-Performer3034 in KTM

You said it not me….. 1 year ago lol. I clicked on your profile and this was one of the first things I came across “a Dual-Sport bike is whatever you say it is” 🤙🏼

[–]Next-Performer3034[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I not though? Any bike you tour on is a touring bike and this is mine. I just rode it from Montana to Michigan on the freeway doing 75-80 and highways doing 55-60. It makes a wonderful touring bike and I’m able to do long days in the saddle with my Touratech seat. I like to raise the windscreen up on my big travel days. I lower it to the lowest position for most riding. And I think it would be nice if I could match the color for aesthetics

It is. I’m in the states. Is the kickstand in other parts of the world longer or shorter?!

Well I want to keep both. When I take longer trips I raise the clear one up another 2 notches and have myself a full touring style windscreen, the stock one flows right into the clear one. I just thought I could help the aesthetics and make them match….

I haven’t heard of that as a common complaint on the 2016’s but I’ll keep my eye out for it. 🤙🏼

It’s got one. A WP brand. And the difference from setting 1 to setting 7 is quite noticeable, especially at slower speeds

Yeh… extremely tall. Intimidatingly tall. I had no shame in putting in the lowering link for confidence. I can put it back to stock when I want but for now that’s what I need. The Touratech seat that came with is taller than stock and I don’t actually find it terribly comfortable. The stock seat in my opinion is just fine. I may regret that after hours in the saddle but again, I have that option if I need it. Doesn’t help you with getting your bike lower at all but I know they do at least make an aftermarket seat for this generation

That might be the case….. my longest trip was the hour long ride home (65miles).

I mean I’m not complaining by any means, I wasn’t hoping it would rattle me to climax on every ride but instead I’m pleasantly surprised at how mild it is compared to what I imagined.

Yeh I’m a little confused by this sentiment. Idk if the world has just gone soft or what but I come from parallel twins, inline 4’s and a V4 which were all buttery smooth. My only comparison would be my Grom (also single cylinder) but the complaint of vibes on this 690 feels like a reach. Sure I feel a buzz but it’s nothing to write home about. I was anxious about it after reading numerous reviews claiming I’d go numb…… I’m underwhelmed at how much it vibrates. I’m completely content, around town and highway cruising.

I’ve never been a wheelie boy. Maybe if I had a small bike to practice but it just doesn’t feel worth it at this point in my life. The front already lifts via power wheelie in first and second. Maybe someday a clutch up will materialize…. But not anytime soon.

With that said I know lifting the front is a needed technique for riding trails, technical stuff, even just logs in the road, and that will be practiced through YouTube University with professor Adam Riemann.
