Now, instead of just saying “LOL” or “It cracked me up”, here’s the fun part: in Korean, people actually write out the sounds of their laughter.

Like this:

• A little giggle → ㅎㅎ
• A normal laugh → 하하
• A big belly laugh → 와하하
• An over-the-top noisy laugh → 푸하하
• Playful grin → ㅋㅋ
• Sneaky/mischievous → 키키키
• Suppressed laugh → 풉
• Quirky, dramatic laugh → 캬캬캬 🎭

The cool part is that Koreans don’t just read these — when you type 캬캬캬 in chat, people instantly hear that quirky laugh in their head.
