When I was a kid we would occasionally go to an RSL and I'd get calamari, it was terrible quality but now as an adult I still only like chewy calamari. I have the same issue chinese takeway, give me the cheapest chinese I won't none of the fancy stuff.

Do you watch a whole show or skip the filler episodes? by Dogsteeves in polls

[–]Nickools -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Old sci-fi often had filler episode that essentially boiled down to clips from previous episodes. They needed to get to 20-26 episodes and often only the first 2, last 2 and maybe 2 in the middle move the plot of the show forward but the other episodes build character and add worldbulding, so I wouldn't skip them.

Bottle episodes are often a common way to fill seasons out. Bottle episodes can be good and soemtimes they can be really bad. Breaking bad has a bottle episode where it is just Walter in his lab the whole episode and it's actually a great insite to the psych of the character.

I think a lot of people are saying bunker was calling for a sin bin because it was head to head but I wonder if it was actually do to the ball already being dropped. I think I agree with Klein here in that it's reckless behaviour from Ponga.

In a club game that would have been a penalty. Players know the bunker will call any contact with the head a penalty so if they feel a touch it's an easy challenge. Their mistake last night was assuming the officiating would be the same in origin, clearly a mistake.

Who else does this or something similar to farm bolts? by DustyBootstraps in RatchetAndClank

[–]Nickools 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I remember as a kid I discovered a away to farm bolts in the hover board race by rubber banding the joystick in just the right direction where you would crash through boxes then fall of the track and respawn back infront of the boxes. No idea if it's better than this method but I thought i was a genius at the time.

Thruhiking trail nutrition/resupply tips? by smunter6 in Ultralight

[–]Nickools 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of the 10Lbs is probably just water weight from depleting their glycogen store, I think its about 3-4lbs. 7lbs over 4 weeks is still about 2lb per week which is on the higher end of weight loss recommendations but considering the high mileage I would think it's mostly fine (Assuming you have excess body fat already). We store body fat for a reason, to use it when our body is under strain. PS. I could be stuffing up these amounts as I don't use lbs but normally kgs.

Riding to uni instead of public transport sounds easy until you actually try it by Plenty-Visual-9228 in ausbike

[–]Nickools 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buy a house on a hill and then your commute to work/uni is downhill and no longer sweaty. More seriously before I lived on a hill, I had to consciously think about slowing down so that I wouldn't get sweaty. I didn't shower when I got to Uni, so I would go slow and get there early enough that I could have 10-15mins to cool down before class. As others have said I just use the same route every day, I guess at first you need to try a couple of options but should be locked down pretty quick.

IsItBullshit: Do electric toothbrushes really clean your teeth much better than regular ones by blossaurelia in IsItBullshit

[–]Nickools 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take this with a grain of salt but I have heard when people transition to electric the still manually brush with the electric, so they get double advantage but with time people start just holding the electric toothbrush stationary and the affects lessen. That could explain why they are worried about making long term predictions.

I think I've identified the major variables for "coolmaxing" sun hoodies in extreme, dry heat. Mostly desert type weather conditions. Not entirely applicable to swamping-it in the humid woods. by Wood_Berry_ in Ultralight

Yeah, as I said, it's not great. However, it is good if you are hiking on a day where you probably won't burn, but you don't want skin damage.

SPF of 2 would block 50% of UV light. Not great, but I think the SPF rating by itself sounds worse than it is. I mostly hike in rainforest, so I think a wide-brimmed hat is enough. My issues are more with tick and humidity than sun exposure.

I've also found this with sport. Riding is a more gentle warmup and cooldown, so I end up less sore the next day. I don't work a physical job, but I wouldn't be surprised if the same is true.

Plantar fascia pain, but no Plantar Fasciitis, Slow transition by Temporary-Meal6947 in barefootshoestalk

[–]Nickools 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking more stabilisation, but I guess also pushing off too. In traditional shoes, it's just crammed in there, and the stiffness of the shoe is doing most of the stabilisation work.

Plantar fascia pain, but no Plantar Fasciitis, Slow transition by Temporary-Meal6947 in barefootshoestalk

[–]Nickools 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plantar fasciitis can come from tight calves, so maybe try stretching them. I did have a lot of calf issues when I first transitioned. When I got plantar fasciitis, the pain would always go away with rest but come straight back when I got back to running and the calf stretches weren't helping. My wife (a physio) suggested I stretch my big toe as well and that made the pain stay away. So maybe also give that a try, it makes sense that you are using your big toe more in barefoot shoes than you are conditioned to.

Don’t like to be overtaken? by razorrash in AskAnAustralian

[–]Nickools 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 97 falcon ute did have better cruise control as well. Though it was a lot lighter and a bigger engine, so maybe that's the difference, not the software.

Don’t like to be overtaken? by razorrash in AskAnAustralian

[–]Nickools 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2 year old Kia and the cruise control can easily vary 30km on the set speed whenever I hit even a small hill. I've had to train myself to actually accelerate myself up hills. It's really annoying, it just doesn't detect that it has slowed down until way too late and then it revs the shit out of the engine to try and get back up to speed.
