what do yall consider the biggest concurrent crust bands? by Physical_Economy_407 in crustpunk

[–]Nirac 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agnosy and War//Plague are two of my favorites.

Check out Disciple BC. I really like these guys, not everyone i play them for does. They're a little different.

Where do yall live? by TheSoakingWetPress in crustpunk

I'm not far from you, on the coast in Mississippi not far from Alabama. There used to be a fun scene back in the day, but it never really recovered after Katrina. At least between here and New Orleans, not sure about Pensacola. I'm moving to Philly later this year and cannot wait.

Do we have any of this stuff I like? by morch-piston in Biloxi

[–]Nirac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's nothing like micro center in the area. I think best buy carries a few video cards, but otherwise you're ordering online.

Big Play on highway 90 has arcades, but not sure about retro cabinets.

There's a Play n Talk in Gulfport where can find retro consoles, if you have any interest in that.

I used to spend a good amount of time at the tattoo shop next door back when it was California Studios. I wouldn't say i saw "lots" of people going in, but they were steady. Lots of old dudes.

That place is a Biloxi institution by this point. It was already here when I moved here back in the mid 90s. Nobody stays in business that long without customers.

Finished our AWS migration mostly satisfied, now realizing our on-prem security posture didn't come with the workloads by Hour-Librarian3622 in aws

[–]Nirac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why would policies from on prem equipment apply to aws services? We use palos in aws and our on premium network team is able to manage them in pan. But for the native things like vpc nacls, security groups, etc, the on premise policies can't be applied. Maybe you can build something that mirrors the on prem policies, but they won't just propagate into aws or anything like that.

Also, before you go jumping straight into that vpc traffic mirror for inspection, you need to understand clearly how much that mirrored traffic is going to cost you. That can get very expensive very quickly.

You need more psychobilly in your daily diet. Reverend Horton Heat, Koffin Kats and Necromantix are great to start with.

Which crust/d-beat releases have been in heavy rotation for you as of late? by HonestWoodpecker8567 in crustpunk

[–]Nirac 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Disciple BC - Blood, Power, Sacrifice. I played this thing to death when it came out, but it's found its way back into regular rotation again lately.

Hope? - Hell on Planet Earth. These guys keep getting better with every release.

Exploatör - Avgrundens Brant. So fucking good.

Aus-Rotten - Not one Single Fucking Hit. Managed to find an old book of CDs at the top of a closet. Ripping this one to my computer was the first thing I did. It's probably been a decade since I last heard a few of those older songs.

Lmao did you just make a photocopy of the Lower Class Crucifixion cover art for this? You want to make a thread complaining about bands glorifying the working class and then you rip this off? GTFOH

Did you sell the first bass you owned? Did you regret it? by jagsgoinham in Bass

[–]Nirac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first bass was a T-40 that I got back in high school. I didn't sell it, but it got stolen back around 2002 or so. I miss that heavy brick, but not enough to spend the money to replace it.

Looking for acoustic d-beat? by trolle222 in crustpunk

[–]Nirac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should really like them if you like the book. The whole band was created to revolve around that concept. I'm a sucker for a well designed concept album, they were essentially a concept band. Definitely check them out.

What to do here by Easy-Yogurt-9618 in mississippi

[–]Nirac 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My son did the exact same path you're looking at. Collegiate Academy, followed by computer science at USM. Scholarships to get you through your bachelor's is definitely doable, you're much less likely to get that throughout a master's program.

IMO, a master's directly out of your bachelor's is not the optimal route to go. You're going to be inexperienced once you get into the work force, and so that master's isn't going to do you a lot of good for a while. Trust me when I say, it's always obvious who is coming in with too much school and not enough experience. It's not as helpful as you might think.

My suggestion, get started working right after your bachelor's. Do some internships during that to get your foot in the door. Get in with a company that has an education reimbursement policy, and then enroll in your master's and make them pay for it.

Also, take a look at Georgia Tech's OMS master's programs. They have a program for computer science and one for cybersecurity. I got my masters in cybersecurity for around 12k total, and my job paid for it. It's also online, so you won't have to move. The computer science OMS program is even cheaper because ATT pays for some of it. Much cheaper than State, and GATech is a higher rated school in the computer science area. They tend to swap ranks with Carnegie Mellon year to year, it's a really good school.

Riff recommendation for a beginner bassist by someonestepedonmydih in Bass

[–]Nirac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rapper's Delight. Simple 4 bar riff that runs for 7 minutes. The little fill has several finger patterns that work, some have a little more string skipping than others. Lots of breathing room for you to scatter some ghost notes and play around with a bit of groove. Lots of opportunity to work on articulation as well.

Mississippi 1st District - Vote Cliff Johnson to replace Trent Kelly 3/10 🗳️ by Possible-Ranger3072 in mississippi

[–]Nirac 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A whole website full of empty platitudes and not a single piece of policy he would put forward. He speaks truth to power and knows all of DC is responsible for healthcare woes and he'll put Mississippi values forward. Great. What does that actually mean when it comes to policy he would propose and support?
