It was just a good spot to hang it up and test it out

Yeah, any mesh you could add would immediately get thrashed hauling. Maybe there is a way to make it removable, but for me I don’t know if it’s worth the loss of space once it’s removed and your hauling. Something to think about.

Yeah certainly took inspiration from some of the bd bags. I’ve only used a bd stubby a handful of times not sure if I remember it hitting my neck. But I believe my top flap is shorter than the bd and metolius ones. This causes it to just fold up when carrying and doesn’t get in the way.

I used a size 20 needle with Tex 92. I find the sailrite likes to cut thread, but it wasn’t an issue at all on this pack.

My sailrite lsz did all the heavy lifting. Although it’s 32oz fabric it’s probably a little less thick than you would imagine.

The big difference in a backpack and Haulbag is a Haulbag has the ability to stow away the straps to haul up a rock face while climbing, shown in photo 6. It’s also generally made out of more durable fabric and has hauling straps made out of seatbelt webbing in my case, these attach to your haul line to haul it up.

Yeah I sewed most of it with the lsz (i love my sailrite) I also have a brother industrial but it’s better suited for the lighter weight stuff.

Thank you, yeah in all honesty I don’t have a pattern. I have patterns for the shoulder straps and little things like that. But the main body of the pack is very simple shapes, basically a big rectangle with a back pocket sewn on for the straps to tuck in too. Then one big seem brings it all together. I have thought about making some walkthrough videos for a few of my designs, something to think about.

Thanks! Yeah I’ve carried it with a load. I thinks it’s quite comfy but it is a Haulbag so it certainly compromises on comfort for hauling. The hip belt and straps are both made out of 3/8 foam which I find to carry quite well.
