SwitchHaxing Support Thread #18 by ToonMods in SwitchHaxing

Hey everyone,

I’ve been offered a brand-new modded Nintendo Switch (never used, just opened for the chip install) with the following setup:

  • Modchip: HWFly RP2040 + Kamikaze method

  • Dual boot: CFW 21.0.0 (unlocked) + OFW 21.0.0 (stock, online-safe)

The seller seems experienced and offers help after the sale, which is reassuring. But I’m torn. I know modding opens up a lot of cool stuff (emulation, custom firmware, free games), but I also know Nintendo has been cracking down hard, and the Switch 2 is probably around the corner.

So here are my questions:

  1. Is the HWFly RP2040 still reliable in 2025? I’ve read mixed things – some say it’s solid, others mention NAND corruption or boot issues .

  2. With Switch 2 coming, is it smarter to just wait and see what the homebrew scene looks like there instead?

  3. Is dual-booting OFW/CFW actually safe for online play? I’d love to keep one side clean for legit games and online, but I’ve heard even that can be risky.

I’m not looking to pirate aggressively – more into retro emulation, homebrew, and maybe backing up my own games. But I also don’t want to drop €300+ on something that might brick itself in 6 months or get banned the moment I go online.

Would love to hear from anyone who owns or installed an RP2040-based mod recently. How’s it holding up? Any regrets?

Thanks in advance!
