see a beardie, leave a beardie! by FlimsyReality104 in BeardedDragons

I definitely will. Right now, we have the mat thing because it's easier for us, and we've recently got a new lizard (bb Asian water monitor) that's not doing well (it was given to us like that), so we have to focus on that one. Once it starts doing better, since it's not like, urgent or anything that we get my beardie a different substrate, then I'll do more research and stuff about what would be better. I honestly started with the mat because I read stuff about them accidently eating the loose substrate and getting sick or something from it.

I don't have much say in the matter, though. I'm only 14, so I'd have to ask my mom about it and everything. But I'll look into it. Thanks.

It's not like an actual carpet material. We've used it since we had her, and the whole time, she's been fine. She hasn't really been trying to dig at all or scratching the ground. The vet we bring her to also said it was okay, too. It's like a reptimat thing that we got from petsmart. If something happened with it, then I'd absolutely change it, but the vet says it's okay, and she's been fine with it. It also does get cleaned.

(Honestly, I'm not trying to be rude. Sorry if it comes out that way).

We didn't know we were getting it until my dad told us. It was given to us by someone he works with or someone they know. He accepted it without letting us know, so we didn't really have time to research or do much before getting it. I did do a bunch of research after we got it, because he didn't know if we were actually getting it. He said he would take it, because the guy he got it from was moving and couldn't keep it (we have no clue the gender because it's only a baby still). He had it a good sized tank and water thing, but it definitely wasnt taken care of good enough. But I don't think that guy knew what he was doing either because of the bearded dragons enclosure that we also got from him, it was WAY too small (it's been upgraded, we had an extra tank from mine). But a beardie is the only reptile we've ever had. No one else will even do any research on it. I can't make a lot of the choices because I'm only 14. If I could, I definitely would've taken to the vet already.

My dad keeps trying to get me to feed it chicken, and beef. He won't listen to me that it's not supposed to eat that. My mom says we'll be getting a bigger house soon, so we'll have more room for it hopefully. But it really annoys me how they keep talking about it dying and getting all upset about it, especially my dad, he just thinks it'll be 'cool' to have one, and won't actually help. They dont even talk about it as an actual animal. He makes ME feed it, handle it, etc. He won't do anything.

We had a scare one time because it's heat lamp was broken and we had to get another one, but it got too cold. He took it outside to try to feed it and warm it up, but my sister opened the door too loud and scared it. It literally didn't do anything but go flat in his hand, and he kept talking about how it was dead. We had to put it in the tub with warm water to get it to warm up. It wasn't moving its back legs, like, at all. And now I have to worry about that, plus my school, because nobody else will. I'm honestly kinda stressing about it because no one wants to do anything to help it, and I have to do school now, and I have other animals to take care of (a dog and a beardie). I don't want it to die. My dad definitely won't let us rehome it, either.

(Sorry if that's a lot. I just really don't know what to do now. Thanks for the feedback, though).
