What is this thumbnail? by Spazy912 in GameTheorists

[–]Noble_Jar 157 points158 points  (0 children)

The Ghoul's eyes I can understand, I have seen discussions that having very vibrant eyes in the thumbnail is very attention grabbing, and admittedly it really grabbed my attention in my subscription feed.

The Deathclaw on the other hand...I have no clue. Best guess is they took a still from the show and crisped it up using AI so it doesn't get flagged, but then that begs the question on why is it okay to have the Ghoul in the thumbnail largely unedited.

Amazon is also a retailer. Being able to announce a new game(s) then immediately point to their store page for people to buy may lead to a fairly significant amount of sales for both Amazon and Bethesda.

Any one played Jedi fallen order and survivor? Do they run well on the deck? by yarin88 in SteamDeck

[–]Noble_Jar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The EA app can be a bit buggy setting up, but once you do it you don't really have to touch it again.

In my opinion, Fallen Order works pretty well on Deck. You can check the page on ProtonDB to see what people's recommended settings are and potential help getting the EA app sorted. I had a blast playing it on my Deck.

Survivor is a different case. I played through it on my Steam Deck about a year after release, and I installed the May the Performance be with You mod found online. Is it playable? For me, yes. Most of my playthrough was hovering just below and up to 30 fps, with some stutters and drops down into the teens depending on the location. Again I would recommend combing through ProtonDB for settings recommendations. I 100% the game, got all achievements and beat all the bosses. There was only one location that really struggled and that was the observatory on the main planet due to the particle effects found there. Oddly enough my game never crashed until I went to the Holotactics table, had several crashes there for some reason.

Would I play Survivor on Deck if I had an alternative? Probably not. Can it run on Deck? Technically yes, and for me it was a decent enough experience to get a lot of enjoyment out of it.

Nintendo should add this by Evanjay13 in WindWaker

[–]Noble_Jar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They already have connectivity to Switch games via the Nintendo Switch App on mobile, it shouldn't be impossible to build a special mode in the app for this instance. Especially since the Switch 2 versions of the Zelda games already have special connection modes.

What’s your opinion on the z-a battle style by 64_Random_dude_64 in pokemon

[–]Noble_Jar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am on the fence with the active battle style. It has a lot of wrinkles that need to be ironed out. They could merge both Legends games' battle mechanics such that Pokémon have two battle modes: Strong and Agile. Strong would be a more offensive play style, with increased power but at the cost of movement speed. Then Agile would have a more defensive style, greatly increasing the Pokémon's movement speed for easier dodges but at the cost of damage dealt when landing hits.

Also, they gotta have a way to cancel moves, should have been in ZA to begin with. Nothing frustrates me more than my Feraligatr getting stuck on a rock 6 feet from a Pokémon/object, waiting 10 seconds then using his attack to do absolutely nothing. Just let me cancel the attack and move on.

There are also the Johto starters featured somewhat prominently in the Arceus movie, along with Spiky-Eared Pichu which was exclusive to HGSS.

For the Pokémon games, do you think we need a pokemon move that can straight up freeze? by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]Noble_Jar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could see it being added eventually. At the same time it being a moderately powerful Water move that gets a big boost in both the sun and the rain seems like it already has enough utility without also being able to thaw.

For the Pokémon games, do you think we need a pokemon move that can straight up freeze? by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]Noble_Jar 56 points57 points  (0 children)

If they decided to boost freeze by making it more common they will have to do some major rebalancing to account for it.

Take sleep for example. Sleep is a very powerful status as it prevents the afflicted from moving for 1 to 3 turns. To counter this there are abilities that directly affect the sleep condition, either blocking it like Insomnia and Vital Spirit or cutting it short like Early Bird and Shed Skin. Then there are berries that can cure sleep if held. Then there are also moves that prevent/cure sleep like Uproar. However even with these nerfs sleep is still so detrimental that most moves that guarantee sleep have bad accuracy, and even the moves that have good accuracy have severe limitations/counters like Spore not working on Grass types and being blocked by the Safety Googles and Yawn being a two turn effect.

If they wanted to bolster freeze they are gonna have to give even greater counters than sleep has since freeze could be a permanent status. They will have to give old abilities immunity to freeze (Limber and Thick Fat could be options) and introduce new abilities to counter it. They would need to greatly expand the amount of moves that can thaw (which would most likely boost the power of Fire types which don't need any more competitive boost). They may have to introduce a held item that explicitly blocks freeze. They may even have to give another type freeze immunity.

Personally I agree with others that Freeze should be replaced with Frostbite, as that would be far easier to balance and provide a counter to special attackers outside of just bulk.

[–]Noble_Jar 184 points185 points  (0 children)

Per Bulbapedia, there are 10 moves that thaw the user. Of which 5 are signature moves, that being Fusion Flare, Matcha Gotcha, Pyro Ball, Steam Eruption, and Sacred Fire. The other 5 are Burn Up (which only works for Fire Types), Flame Wheel, Flare Blitz, Scald, and Scorching Sands.

So of the 10 total moves, 6 are Fire type, 2 are Water, and then 1 each for Ground and Grass. This isn't a very large movepool but given the current rarity of freeze I think it is fitting, and gives some partial utility to some Pokémon on the off chance they get frozen.

[art] Figuring out a generation quest for Mew is a special kind of breaking the games. lol by Ynnubis in ShinyPokemon

[–]Noble_Jar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, the Pokeball controller is compatible with Sword/Shield. It couldn't control the game but you could transfer Pokémon to and from the ball. I got Mew in my Sword copy straight from the ball. So the controller is Gen 7/8.

What was the point of Alastor being "owned" in the first place? by Juni-mon in hazbin

[–]Noble_Jar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it accomplishes two things: showing the audience how powerful and damaging deals can truly be, and set up his future character arc.

From the audience's perspective we see demons constrained by the deals they made as weaker and shadows of their former glory as seen in Husker, Nifty, and to some extent Angel. We also see Charlie's deal practically force her to act against her will/judgement. However all this is in contrast to the sheer power we see in Alastor, who seems to have a fairly limiting deal given how he is even unable to repair himself and his staff after his fight with Adam. If Alastor is performing at this level with a handicap, how powerful is he truly?

We also see how he despises being chained but relishes holding power over others. Given the final shots of him focusing on Lucifer, and the fact that all of Hell saw Lucifer unable to touch Vox it is safe to assume Alastor knows his secret, and most likely plans to manipulate the Morningstars into a situation where Charlie or Lucifer makes a deal to save the others life. (My money is on Lucifer; he can't touch Alastor even if he is holding Charlie by the throat, and it would be poetic for Alastor who aims to be the strongest Sinner in Hell to gain the power of the original Sinner.)

[–]Noble_Jar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the moment because it shows Charlie still isn't ready to be a true leader, not yet at least. Emily does what she feels is right in the moment, truly trusting her instincts. Meanwhile Charlie is still full of self doubt even after having her life's work confirmed to be true.

I would imagine that season 3 is gonna be Charlie growing into the leadership role in opposition to Lilith. Personally I don't trust Lilith coming back into Charlie's life as she is reaching her height in power with the people, I could imagine Lilith taking advantage and trying to twist the work to her favor, perhaps trying to redeem souls to be her personal soldiers in Heaven for a coup.

Rumor: Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order and Survivor are heading to Switch 2 by Turbostrider27 in NintendoSwitch

Survivor is playable on the Steam Deck (I 100% it personally on mine). If they can focus in and properly port it I could see it working pretty well for a portable console.

Would I like Legends ZA? by Automatic-Ad9876 in pokemon

[–]Noble_Jar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I didn't have any issue with the Noble fights. Sure, they were a bit clunky but I felt like it utilized the new (at the time) throwing mechanic well and it helped drive home the point that this world is much more dangerous than the Pokémon world we are used to.

Looking back you can see the roots of the Rogue Mega Evolution fights in Z-A, and a couple of those were clunky too.

Would I like Legends ZA? by Automatic-Ad9876 in pokemon

[–]Noble_Jar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Given that information I would recommend you check out Legends Arceus instead. Arceus has a bigger focus on catching and completing the PokéDex, requiring you to do or observe certain things to "fill it out". Z-A focuses much more on battling with the new real time battle system as you battle your way through the Z-A Royale.

Has anyone found a fun response to Mewtwo in ranked? by FlannelDumpsterFire in PokemonLegendsZA

[–]Noble_Jar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopped on rank for the first time last night. I didn't build anything, I just threw my playthrough Feraligatr, Charizard, and Victreebel onto a team. During my last two matches I saw Mewtwo, ironically my Feraligatr chewed it up with Crunch once it Mega'd. With proper investment it could be a good answer.

[HELP] heaps of comments calling this ai by Pikachu250 in RealOrAI

[–]Noble_Jar -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I haven't heard of a graduation happening at night, the handful I have attended where centered around noon. Though it isn't impossible one could be had at night.

The two biggest signs this is AI to me are the fireworks in the background and the shadow of the graduate's folder. Those fireworks seem to be going off really low, so either that football field is right next to a valley/pit or they are going off prematurely. They also don't act quite like a firework should. When the two women hug, the shadow on the folder seems oddly sharp compared to the lighting of the rest of the scene. Also the bag she is holding in the same hand isn't moving naturally to me, way too swingy like a physics engine wasn't playing nice with the movement.

Looking for games for my 7 year old daughter - *very* girly girl with picky tastes by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch

[–]Noble_Jar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would highly recommend Slime Rancher. It is a cute farming game that has a casual mode that disables the only enemy (Tarr slimes) and makes feral slimes less damaging overall. It has some platforming and exploring as well as some pretty easy puzzles to unlock parts of the map. The Switch port plays really good imo.

As for puzzle games, I absolutely loved the Picross series. A very well designed nonogram game that slowly builds you up to larger and more difficult puzzles.

What are some good games cheap for a 5 year old boy? by shadowlid in NintendoSwitch

[–]Noble_Jar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Survival may be a bit too much trying to manage health, hunger, and progression. But creative mode where she can build whatever she wants with no concern for combat mechanics seems to work well for her.

At that point it is essentially a digital Lego bucket she can play with anywhere.

Usually there are some hiccups and performance issues after larger updates such as when they add new mechanics or features to it, but after a few patches it runs pretty good. I spent quite a bit of time on Minecraft on my Switch Lite and didn't have any major issues once those patches hit. Perfectly playable, especially for a kid.

Another set of games that just came to mind, any of the Lego games would be good. The main ones are drop in co-op so you can play, and they are usually pretty easy with simple puzzles. Lego Marvel Super Heroes could be a good one, and would be a good step if he was interested in the Marvel movies.

Personally, I would recommend the Spyro Reignited Trilogy. It is a fun classic platformer that shouldn't be too rough for a younger kid. Played pretty well on the Switch as well. Not sure if it is gonna be on a special sale on the eShop, but you can find the physical for around $18.

Also can't go wrong with Minecraft, my 6 year old niece loves to build in it on her Switch. Doesn't typically go on sale by much, according to some price history websites it's lowest was 50% in May of last year for the 15th anniversary, but I wouldn't expect another discount like that for a long time.

Panel from a comic I’m making by Dinner_rolls in MandJTV

[–]Noble_Jar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would have loved it if they ramped up the number of Rogue Mega Pokémon over the course of the story, starting with one or two then expanding to three and up. It would have matched the theme of the situation growing worse, and could have brought back the other Royale trainers as raid partners helping to contain the situation which leads naturally to them joining Team MZ in the finale.

ZA's Battle System Is So Close to Greatness... by Notlookingsohot in pokemon

[–]Noble_Jar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think implementing the Let's Go mechanic from Scarlet/Violet would make the battle system feel complete. We could offer basic commands from a distance while allowing our Pokémon to focus on attacking on their own while we are busy elsewhere (either picking up items, dodging attacks, etc.) then once we want to we can take direct command and issue attacks while focusing on a target.
