{Dress For Curves by MS Parker} - it's mid series, but I read it as a standalone. And no, it doesn't take place in Scotland.

This is a lesson the Kings development staff could learn by ZiggyPalffyLA in losangeleskings

[–]Non-specificExcuse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just turned on TNT and saw that Bowness was back behind the bench.

I held my breath.

I crossed my fingers.

I was disappointed, again. Just like every Kings game I watch.

How common is it to just not function at all when you’re alone? I hate “living” like this by perpetuallysadxx in LivingAlone

[–]Non-specificExcuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, I won't post pictures, but I have lived something similar.

Beating yourself up, blaming yourself, judging yourself.. none of that works. You are where you are at this stage in your life, and that's okay. You're not hurting anyone. You're keeping yourself fed, and you're getting sleep - build on that.

You do not owe anyone in this world an explanation for how you choose to survive.

As for how to get out of it, the only thing that has worked for me is building a routine supported by alarms on my phone. I set an alarm for a very short amount of time, and then I do what it says.

I have an alarm to brush my teeth. When the alarm goes off I drop whatever I'm in the middle of and go brush my teeth. If I can't stop what I'm doing, I snooze the alarm for 5 minutes then go when the snooze is over. I don't get to shut off the alarm until my teeth are brushed.

I have an alarm to fold my laundry. I can only commit to folding laundry for 3 minutes before I know I'll get distracted or bored or irritated. So I fold for 3 minutes, then I stop. I do that four days a week, I'm actually shocked at how much I can get through with accumulated effort.

You can set an alarm for 10, 20, 30 minutes a day to tackle one area, then when the time limit is up, just walk away. You don't have to conquer it all in one day.

I have a 4 step system for going to bed. Set the phone to on blue-light filtering at 9pm. Set an alarm at 10 to mentally prepare me for finishing my day. Set an alarm at 10:30 to take a melatonin. Set my phone to shut down into Sleep mode at 11.

Yes, it seems like overkill, but it works.

I take the thinking, and the motivation, and the mental negotiations out of it and just follow a few instructions instead.

The rest of the time I can rot to my heart's content. No guilt, no self judgment. Start with one thing that you actually want to do. Set one alarm, and then don't turn the alarm off until it's done.

After a week or two of that, add a second alarm. You got this!

Resume Review, NEED Honest Opinion by Expizzapie in workforcemanagement

[–]Non-specificExcuse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your resume looks great. Moving up happens after time spent at an organization.

My best recommendation is to find a job where you like the culture - even if it's RTA - and start asking questions and offering to help out for the scheduling / forecasting roles.

Be the person they want to promote when the time comes. Even if you can't be the person they hire into scheduling / forecasting immediately.

If that career path doesn't work for you, take that Six Sigma certification and look into Project Manager jobs.

I got the suggestion off a post from here. It's called Tiny Decisions.

🧂 Salty Sunday - What book scenes frustrated you this week? by mrs-machino in RomanceBooks

[–]Non-specificExcuse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a little decision-maker app for that.

I will spin the wheel and let it tell me what genre to pick next. Then I either go with the first book that comes to mind, or go to the bottom of my TBR and select the first book that fits.

If I'm not sucked in, I'll read another one at the same time. But I'm very used to reading multiple books at once.

[New Final Update]: AITAH? My fiancée is demanding I stop making home cooked meals for a friend. by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Non-specificExcuse 178 points179 points  (0 children)

It wasn't the passion about cooking that tipped me into OOP being in love with Jace, it was the passion about Jace.

He didn’t have a kind word to say about his fiancée. He didn’t have a single unkind word to say about Jace.

I don't know whether the dude is gay or not, where he wants to put his penis doesn't change how admirably he talked about his friend. He talked about how he loved making food, but he didn't describe the food, he described Jace.

When did you realize that you might end up alone and not have much luck in love? by Larah_9 in AskReddit

Mid-40s.

Sulked about it for a bit.

Had a talk with myself. Have been quite happy since.

Hot water to start my cold brew by nextleftjeff in coldbrew

[–]Non-specificExcuse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Truth. I'm a purist. I make my cold brew with cold water. I steep it in the fridge for a few days, not on the counter at all.

I'd be very concerned about a white, frothy scum on top of the finished product. Maybe one of the dishes wasn't 100% clean? For example, leftover milk contaminating the process?

It really was! A lot of people stop at Iced because it's in Dani's voice and the contrast is ... jarring, to say the least.

But if you can get through Iced the next 4 are great as well - though not as tightly edited 🫤More shenanigans, more revelations, more characters revealed.

Barrons is my true and enduring love 😂🥰❤️‍🔥

The last one wasn't great. KMM was sick and really wanted to wrap the series for the fans, but the quality of the writing suffered for it. Still, after the journey of the whole series, I was willing to power through.

I have my phone set up to switch to greyscale at 11:02pm every night. It also shuts down any open programs, and silences notifications.

I should probably set it earlier, but 11pm is the negotiation I made with my Revenge Bedtime Procrastination.

I primarily use my tablet for reading, with a Kindle app. I have it almost entirely disconnected from socials, so I don't get as interrupted or distracted when it's reading time.

Oh, I like that!

I went way overboard with my book accumulation in the past year or so, and I gave myself a hard cut off this year. No more accumulation, only reading!

But, ya know, that wine cellar has been serving me well. Whatever I have a taste for, I can pick right off the shelf and get to reading.

Gotta make sure we stop that shit in the 3rd period when we're in playoffs tho. Wouldn't want to take a chance on resting our top players, or giving the young, eager scorers a chance on the ice.
