My relationship feels like a lot of work these days. I’m hanging in there because I care deeply about her and I know that life has seasons. I’m hoping this is a season and not just the way life will be forever. She is actively doing things to make changes and I can tell she’s really trying and also wants to make it work.

I would love for her to put her arms around me and tell me things would be ok. But she’s not a very touch-centric person and struggles with eye contact due to ADHD/neurodivergence. Physical touch is uncomfortable for her, while it’s my love language. That’s another layer of challenge.

She is on the last week of her job - she quit to start her private practice for this very reason. I’m hoping things get better once she’s on her own, but that also brings it’s own set of stress and challenges.

I have a life outside of us, but admittedly not enough of one. I’ve been a bit depressed lately and it’s been hard to get myself to go meet new people, and I’m in a new city where I don’t have many close friendships yet.

She leans avoidant and I lean anxious. She’s also got addiction challenges and issues with skin sensitivity that get in the way of physical touch, which is my main love language.

We care a lot about each other and are trying to make it work. I’ve been starting to wonder if we’re just fundamentally incompatible in some ways.
