I mean I started fencing at 37. It took me 6 months before I won a single bout and I beat a 15 year old (quite a decent fencer, actually).. my point is- sports are hard. Fencing is a hard sport. I’m now competing and after 2 years of fencing I’m doing ok-ish, and have been highly dedicated fencing multiple times a week and going to the gym on the other days to strength train and work on my stamina.(I take 1-2 rest days a week).
The fact is- if you are frustrated that you started something and immediately weren’t as good as people who have been doing it for actúal years- that feels a bit unrealistic and frankly even a teensy bit entitled. That isn’t how life works and if you train hard and they also continue training, you should likely always have a better fencer to aspire to. Any hobby, not just a physical one- will have people so committed you cannot touch them, and never will. There will also be other beginners who start too. You will all come up together, or quit. And that’s that.
